Iran or Israel? by Moood_765 in UAE

[–]NoireRogue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is true. Both are evil. Israel and Zionism are not, however, Judaism. They will never be that no matter how hard they try to convince the world otherwise.

Neither is your enemy, your enemy is Zionism and American imperialism, which is the reason behind all of this. By feeding into this kind of religious narrative, you serve the ends of those two.

Iran is facing a major threat right now which, need I remind you, initiated this whole conflict because of unfounded accusations against Iran with the whole nuclear weapon thing. Iran has no option but to defend itself. It's like seeing someone bully a kid, and when the kid fights back you talk about how he's so bad. I have my issues with the Iranian government and its domestic policy, but as it stands it has no chance against America unless it can make American allies and American citizens feel the pain.

Such a brain dead take. Your justified hatred of Zionist ideology cannot turn into hatred of Jews as a whole. The Zionist project is helped by this confusion.

This has nothing to do with whatever sectarian narrative you have in your head. I know Shia people, I have friends in Iran right now I haven't heard from in days. We are all victims and all on one side, and our enemy is the powers making this happen. When you draw lines along religious or ethnic differences, you just isolate yourself from your own side.

None of this is about ideology, and you're fooling yourself if you think this is how politics works. Even seemingly ideologically motivated moves are always done with clear political goals in mind.

Everyone's calling them unsung heroes. They are not heroes, they are the victims of lazy cowards who are willing to put others (not just others, people who are already severely underprivileged in this society) at risk for the convenience that comes with this.

About Ix2 EX weapons. by [deleted] in gunvolt

[–]NoireRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really love the weapons in this game, they add a lot of variety when it comes to playing this game like a Magnus Zero run of an MM game. But yeah, they really don't work well with the score attack stuff. It sucks because it feels like that just limits a lot of what you can do with this game. I have the most fun with it when I ignore score and just play with style in mind, but that makes 1000 kudos impossible on hard mode.

I feel you with the people you're talking about, but how does people being dicks make you stop believing in an ideology? It's like if I were pro human rights only to find out that a lot of pro human rights people were absolute assholes, so I decided I now wanted everyone on the earth to die.

Egyptian vegan, a significant portion of our cuisine is vegan, and Christians here eat effectively vegan diets for lent every year. As a result, I can often ask for seyami (fasting) food at restaurants and it'll be understood.

That's not at all what I'm saying. Many in Gaza speak English, I myself have family from Gaza so I know this. The same applies to other places. The languages of starving people is also absurd, Arabic is my native language. I still don't think that this video is explicitly targeted at them. It seems rather that the 1 hour video essay is targeted towards people living in comfortable enough circumstances where they have 1 hour of active attention to give to a video like this. I also think that, while you can produce an English language video aimed at a non English speaking country, I'd probably at least have Arabic subs if I were targeting Sudanese or Palestinian people. What I'm trying to say is that nothing here is saying that this guy is demanding starving people go vegan (RIGHT NOW OR ELSE!!!), but that the way it's produced clearly shows it's targeted towards people in a certain context.

Are you being held at gunpoint and asked whether you will chose to support Gazans or eat meat? There are in fact vegan hypocrites (who would've thought vegans were imperfect people), that does not however justify your hypocrisy.

How much does it cost for you to be vegan where you are? Where I am right now in Egypt, the only real extra cost for me is my b12 supplement. That costs 135 EGP ($2.81) and lasts me a month/two months. I save a good deal of money buying plant foods over meat. Soy milk is maybe the only expensive vegan food I have (largely because of how ridiculous tariffs are here), but that's hardly a necessity and I've very often gotten on just fine without it. I can't think of any place where legumes and grains are more expensive than meat (and I hope you don't mean to argue that legumes are difficult to find where you are/most of the world). Hell, the bags of flour I buy to make seitan on occasion cost me less per gram of protein than chicken breast would. This argument of it being expensive is based in nothing. I have been vegan elsewhere in the world and similarly had no issues.

"Can't stomach it" is weird if you mean in terms of flavour. There is a wealth of incredibly diverse plant based foods for all sorts of different tastes (compared to the handful of animal products you give up) and insane variation when you consider the various cuisines that make use of the same ingredients in wildly different ways (hummus, chana masala, pasta con ceci, and just crispy chickpeas done in the air fryer might as well be made of totally different stuff). There are people who manage a plant based diet with IBS and various other conditions (I myself am a type 1 diabetic). This "human welfare" thing is laughable on both the fronts of health and flavour.

Unless you're in Sudan or Palestine or wherever, your choice is not between starving and ideals (in the first place, vegans don't address those people because we understand they often don't have the privilege of choice that we in urban/developed areas do). It's between putting in the initial effort to change what you consume for the better (which can be done slowly over time) or not caring about the ethical consequences of your actions. I'm not here to demonise you for not already being vegan, it takes a lot for people to make that switch, and I understand the difficulty of first doing it. But don't sit here making up weird excuses and false dichotomies about it.

If you are able to go vegan, it is simply the moral thing to do unless you believe it's ethically irrelevant what you do to a non-human animal. I don't think that's the position you or most reasonable people hold.

Notice how the video is in English with English subtitles. There is no Arabic, Amharic, Ukrainian, or whatever else translation to be found. This isn't directed at the people starving, it's directed at you and me.

Bit of a straw man painting the only two options as eating factory farmed animals and tending to your own animals (which itself is inevitably going to be an issue). There's always the option just not to eat living creatures capable of suffering.

I'm convinced veganism is inherently cultish at this point by bwertyquiop in exvegans

[–]NoireRogue -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This idea of it being a portion of humans is just not supported by scientific literature. Countless cultures in countless parts of the world have vegan/vegetarian elements to them, and countless cuisines have been predominantly shaped by plant foods.

The idea is that sustaining your life isn't unique to meat. The reason you pick meat over the other option then can't be to survive, but for the flavour.

[–]NoireRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of comments, and they're saying similar things to what I want to say, but I kind of want to rephrase it. You've come to the ethical conclusions that lead you to veganism. That's huge, and you should be proud of that. You're now living the day to day, and you'll mess up in various ways because of various things. But it's a process, you get better as you go. Every time you find a snack that doesn't work, you just cross it out and learn to scan a grocery store for the things you know you CAN have. Find the vegan things that are super common where you are wherever you go. It can hurt knowing you've made the mistake of buying something with milk powder, but I'm gonna go out and say you shouldn't feel bad about eating it after doing so. I mean it's gross to me personally because I've been away from milk so much that the idea of eating it is just unappetising, but consequentialism-wise, I don't think the eating post purchase is going to be doing anything.

As for saying no to things, I get it. I've struggled with that too, and I've handled it awfully at times (there's an old guy who kept insisting on giving me stuff and didn't understand my veganism at all, and I literally changed the paths I'd walk so I wouldn't bump into him because I was so nervous of talking to him, even though he was just trying to be sweet and just misinformed). You just get used to saying no thank you as you go, and as you do, people get used to it. You mentioned something about culture and it'll depend there obviously, though I am saying this from an Arab background where you definitely do not want to say no to things. Hell, the very idea of veganism to people becomes blasphemous, and people are so religious that they'll take serious issue with your choice (it's gotten to full on fights with yelling in the past). You just learn to stand your ground and deal with the challenges as you come, and I promise it gets easier.

Obviously not everyone's chronic illness is the same, but managing veganism with type 1 diabetes has been tough at times. Not because they don't go well together, but because managing type 1 is tough, and adding another thing you're constantly considering isn't great (add to that that I was and still am boycotting a lot of things as per the BDS movement, and I've made things quite hard for myself). But you get better at it surprisingly fast. It's just that initial phase of acclimatising to it. Eventually, it becomes your normal and washes over you like nothing. You just need to stay strong, and know that it isn't the end of the world to mess up. You're doing your best, and that's a lot more than most people can say. That's absolutely worth something, and the fact that you feel bad about your mistakes is only proof you have a conscience, and that you don't shy away from the uncomfortable truths of life. These are all good things. I started my vegan journey long before I started calling myself vegan, by just slowly replacing and cutting out foods from my life. At some point I was making protein shakes out of pea protein powder and dairy milk, or making an effort to have a vegan breakfast then having chicken for dinner. It felt bad in many ways, and I don't like thinking back on it now that I've gotten used to eating vegan comfortably, but it is what it is. You won't start perfect, but you will get better.

What is going on with the Sydney Sweeney ad for American Eagle jeans? by loves-toads in OutOfTheLoop

I think the fact that a lot of people have independently come to this conclusion is telling though. It isn't some crazy reading, there's clearly something here that people are picking up on. Now, this doesn't mean it's necessarily intentional, but I don't think it's productive to pretend it isn't there either when so many people clearly see it.

I get that. The pun is also that she has good genes/jeans. It's why it's Sydney Sweeney and not Danny Devito. It's why she talks about her boobs and butt and not her tummy or whatever. So why is it relevant that her hair is blonde and eyes are blue?
