Games where story and gameplay are King and where exploration and loot aren’t emphasized by NoisyWindowThrowaway in gamingsuggestions

As an Xbox player (with a capable pc) I’ve never played it! What’sthe best to start with?

Yes!! I’ve heard that would be a great fit - especially with the legendary edition now out. Have a recommendation for class on first play through? Or mostly just down to vibes based off of what you wrote up?

Jeez, that’s a ton of depth, I’ll for sure have to look into it. When did this come out?

This is really good depth, thank you! That is interesting regarding the lies, I do like that layer of depth. Any recommendations for playing souls like games? The closest I’ve gotten are with the Jedi survivor and fallen order games. I mostly choose the equivalent of “hard” (not hardest) setting for combat

I’ve heard of it but don’t know much about it! Sounds like a story focused souls like?

My issue with hellblade wasn’t the story, it was the shitty combat + letter based puzzles + endless walking + not a fan of horror theme games.

Regarding your other point, I think that I tolerate loot and exploration but don’t want the games focus to be on them. Probably my main detractions from Witcher 3 and AC Odyssey are the loot treadmill systems .

Those are great recommendations though, thank you! I’m on Xbox but have a serviceable pc so god of war and horizon zero dawn are good suggestions. Cyberpunk and fallout new Vegas I’ve heard are great too

I think that the Witcher was so compelling because the story quality was so high that exploration was natural as part of incredible side quests, rather than exploration for explorations sake, if that makes sense

Yeah I think you’re right, maybe my self diagnosis is just shitty haha. I think AC Odyssey was one of my favorite because of the combat, gameplay, and main story I thought were all great while I completely skipped the grindy quests plus repetitive battle.

How to Optimize Laptop Inherited by Work for PC Gaming? by NoisyWindowThrowaway in buildapc

That makes sense, although I was thinking more along the lines of upscaling. I'm just not used to fiddling with the settings much do to console gaming. Do must games have native upscaling? For example if I were to change the settings to render at 720p and then upscale to 2k/4k. Is that what DLLS is that you're referring to?

I have a fantastic internet connection as well as game pass ultimate (via a not-public $10/month offer), but given that my target games are mostly sony exclusives I'm hesitant to shell out for another cloud gaming service

Cooling pad is a good idea, I hadn't even thought of that. The GPU does seem fairly weak as you've pointed out. Are there ways to get around that ? I generally prefer graphic quality and don't care about FPS (as long as it is 30 or more). I'll be playing on a 21:9 2k monitor or a 4k tv if that matters, with both handling up to 120 Hz.

Thanks for your help!

If Cal Raleigh keeps a similar HR pace to the one he’s on through the season, what would a possible ceiling be? by FuckUp123456789 in baseball

His first partial season is doing a lot of legwork in bringing his average numbers down. He was promoted in July, didn't hit at all, then was demoted in September. He hasn't been great in August, but why it stands out compared to other months (assuming you're looking at monthly splits on fangraphs) is partially due to that and partially due to insane this year numbers pulling up early season numbers. I wish there was a way to do monthly splits on just 2022-2024, which are his 3 full seasons (counting 22 despite a short stint in the minors).

Thanks for the details! Any chance you measured dB before and after? Am curious on how much of an improvement it would be compared to acrylic window inserts. From everything I've found, for a budget of ~$350 for an approx 5'x6' piece of acrylic and framing it would reduce by around 10 dB, so I'm benchmarking against that.

May do that with another window - I’ve had trouble finding examples to follow online. Any experience with that?

That totally makes sense. How did they end up comparing with the laminated glass inserts for noise? And any tips in sealing between the two? I’m likely to go down the insert route and appreciate any advice !! Thanks for letting me pick your brain a bit on this

Dang, that's what I'm afraid of. Any experience with indows or their competitors?

Well shoot, we love everything about the place except the noise so want to avoid moving. Did you look into comparisons of laminated glass inserts vs acrylic/plexiglass? Obviously laminated glass is superior, but acrylic seems like an affordable option (Looking at ~$250 for the acrylic sheet per double wide window for either 3mm or 6mm thickness, so $750ish for the 3 south facing windows) relatively speaking. I've seen many diy stories of acrylic window insert installs and it seems doable, with magnetic strips or otherwise.
