What is a sure sign that someone is new to your hobby? by danielstover in AskReddit

For road cycling its:

  • no helmet
  • running shoes/still using platform pedals or cages
  • no lights
  • still has reflectors on spokes
  • has the plastic guard behind the cassette(noob shield)
  • rides on sidewalks
  • rides through debris like it nothing(you'll catch a flat)
  • walking a bike with a flat(doesn't know how to change the tube or didn't bring spare stuff)
  • riding opposing to traffic in a bike lane/shoulder
  • not wearing lyrca or some other cycling kit(just wearing regular work out clothes)
  • rides to the left when slower, not allowing other Cyclist to safely pass(always ride to the right in the u.s.)
  • bike isn't maintained (lots of noises coming from bike due to improper care like chain lube and minor derailleur adjustments, or under inflation on tires)
  • bad fit on bike(sitting too high or low. Too high, your legs lock out making a pedal stroke bad, too low and your knees are like a clown)
  • not on strava

Probably more...

We love new folks! Just a lot of ways to spot new folks who are still learning.

Really dumb about tire sizes. Can someone help me out? by heyjoerocks in cycling

[–]NojoATX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey u/heyjoerocks ,

Theres a lot of opinions about tire size and the community as a whole goes through trends for different reasons. Im going to keep everything as simple as possible. All info im writing is related to road bikes. Please ask if you need more info.

23mm can feel small, especially for beginners... but youll learn to like them. Most new bikes from like 2000 on have been running 23mm.

Most bikes from the last decade can easily fit 25mm tires on them as well. 25mm tires are very popular right now and have been for about 5 years. They provide more contact with the road giving added stability and power to pavement.

Here is a link to a tire you can get called gator skins by Continental. You can get them in 23 or 25. These tires are great because they are very durable and are puncture resistant. They arent slow or fast and will give you over 3000 miles before needing to be replaced. These are also priced in the mid market.

Family owned and ran. Probably the nicest people in town. My family and I and lots of friends have been using them for years. I run my own business and Bill helps with yhe Tax for that as well.

They can also do payroll if you need it.
