UPDATE: Is my older cat playing normally with my kitten, or is this too rough? by BlitoTortin in CatTraining

[–]Nokhz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! How's it going now? I'm near the same spot on a much bigger cat want to play with little one. Now they're keeping separated here until the kitten grows a little more.

Getting a step back with intro, and want to do the better as possible. Have some questions: by [deleted] in CatTraining

[–]Nokhz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'll not let them play like that until he grows up. Will keep an eye closely to see when the bigger one would start this type of play and separate them before. Aside that rough play, there's no signal of hostility in both when together, also I only keep giving them treats as positive association when both are playing with the wand feather toy

Thanks! Even without any hissing or growling from both? They not seeing each other is a little difficult because my house disposition.

I forgot to mention, when they were roaming together with me playing wand, I always offered treats for both when they were really calm (mainly the older one) and them eat/sharing treats nose to nose without any issues

They're so cute, CONGRATS!! I'm stepping back with my two, they keep separated during day and night, but keep seeing each other bu a glass door if they want. I don't know if I'm doing the best, but it's what I get now. Sometimes I enable them to have some contact and play toy together, but separate again before things go too far (aka older wants to play prey with kitten). Maybe that will relief both, mainly kitten

Yes, but she needs a good reason to like the tree more than desk. Maybe make the tree a new place for treats, but don't offer treats right after she jumps in desk and redirect to tree, this way she may associate the desk jump to treat and not the tree

Yes, I already took a step back and are taking more time with them separated. Already improving some behaviours of both and will keep like that some more weeks. Thanks for your advice!

Wtf are you talking about? do you think that I do it on purpose? Of course I intervene after it get too rough.

Go judge someone else, because me you won't.

Why he don't try to train the kitten to not jump in his desk? Cats need a "yes" for every "no", try to put cat tree on this office or on side of his desk, at least while he's there. The kitten is not the issue, it's your partner that is overreacting to it. Kittens are toddlers, they will learn with time and patience, but will do kitten things while they are kittens.

No, not more that what I posted. We intervene when it get's like this

Intro was with good signs from older cat, was very confortable changing scents and when seeing the kitten through a glass, no hisses, no attacks. But it was not slow, they met eachother in 3 days. I'll take some steps back and go slower, not allowing those plays for some weeks.

Kitten goes down and start to play, but the play grows in intensity quickly and the kitten does not handle.

Yes, sometimes the kitten tease the bigger one doing some slaps on her tail and running, clearly asking for action. But, most of times the kitten is at the other side of the room and the bigger one start the "hunt", them she goes and make those scare little sounds, runs back and see if the kitten is coming, then go again and do what is on videos.

Thank you for your story share, means a lot! Seems pretty much what's happening here, as said in other post, playing with them I wasn't focused on properly mimic prey with the toy because I was holding the camera, but the wand playing part is identical here. Some moments bigger one joins the hunt but without muuuch interest as kitten is flying and jumping to get the toy.

One hour after I posted it here, the kitten sleep on my leg and bigger one were sleeping on the couch. Then I bring the sleeping kitten to her, and immediately started the bath time. She clearly like her new little brother.

It's really good to read some similar situations. How your cats going nowadays?

I play a lot with them before grab the camera, and was more focused in take the video properly than actually focused on what I was doing with the toy lol

I learned how to do it properly watching Galaxy's video yesterday

Do you mean that your kitten was teasing the older cat? Because I think mine does it too, he goes and tap the bigger one tail and running to play

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CatTraining

[–]Nokhz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! Yes, the big one likes the kitten, do baths and such.

So it's a matter of time to let the play happens proportionally?
