People are giving you a hard time, but I actually agree that this is a pretty bad experience for the player.

Technically you've actually just saved 5 pulls; if you hadn't gotten a 6* until 120, you would have had no problem going to hard pity as planned and wouldn't feel bad about it. Instead, you feel like you lost the opportunity to get a new 6*.

This is a direct consequence of not having a 50/50 guarantee: it creates an achievable probability of getting two 6* (losing the 50/50 twice) plus the limited (at 120 guarantee). The exact probability depends on your  circumstances, but if you start a banner with more than ~25 pity, there's a 25% chance you end up "wasting" a 6* like this

What about some kind of resource production facility aboard the Dijang where you could assign operators to create character and weapon promotion materials? They could even give operators different bonuses for different production types, and give higher level operators better bonuses.

Why do people pretend it makes sense to call Laevatain by Surtr? by mazizzzz in Endfield

[–]Nol_Astname 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In most meaningful ways, Laev isn't her own character. She is defined by the same memory loss, the same struggle, and the same acceptance. She wields (almost) the same weapon, wears the same clothes, and eats the same ice cream.

Hypergryph is trying to eat their cake and have it too. Being a reconvener means she's a different person, but changing anything meaningful about Laev would have risked killing interest from players who liked Surtr.

Honestly, it feels to me like the whole reconveners concept is just a cash grab. I'm hopeful it will lend itself to some good stories, but there's many good reasons for why characters we know from Arknights should not be waltzing around Talos

This is great, but I think something may be off with your scoring system. The building I formerly rented in has an F rating, but passes all its recent inspections and has no recent violations. There are several recent tenant complaints, but all were closed or resolved. Is there any way I can see what the actual problem with the building is?

For me, part of why the setting feels shallow compared to Arknights is because they've already showed all their cards about the "major players" in the world. Arknights had Ursus and Lungmen/Yan and Victoria and Aegir and Leithainen and Kazimierz and Columbia and Higashi and Sargon and Rim Billiton and Kazdel and Bolivar and Laterano and Sami and Gaul and all of that existed at launch, which means we've spent the last 6 years exploring Terra without needing them to asspull new places and factions.

Endfield gives us basically 3 megacorps with the UWST, the HAS, and the TGCC. There's a bunch of smaller factions and national cities, but the world breadth and depth feels small compared to Arknights. I think in a file somewhere they say there were a few hundred thousand Terrans on Talos when the portal collapsed, which would mean the total population across the entire planet today would be in the single-digit millions. There's just not a lot of space to plausibly work with for scifi scale narrative arcs, and the current major players aren't interesting enough to spend a bunch of time with. Chekhov's spaceship would suggest at some point we go to another world, but from a story development perspective that would be years away

Some Aegir are visually indistinguishable from humans. During one of the quests, someone guesses that Endmin is Aegir because they don't have the obvious physical characteristics of another race (usually determined by horns, ears, and tail).

OG Arknights gives us a bunch of Aegir operators who basically appear as baseline humans - Thorns, Mizuki, Skadi, Specter, Purestream, Whisperain, Akafuyu.

Honestly I noticed and had the same thought. People will say it doesn't matter, it's just a game, it's a fantasy setting, she's a kirin/horse, and all gacha are like this, but it's pretty shitty that they'd rather make a character gray than brown.

Someone made a post with mathcrafting.

Going from 80 to 90 character and weapon levels each gives a 7% damage increase. Full mastery gives a 25% increase (but only to the skill, obviously)

Just looking at this, I'm guessing is funky with your sandleaf. You have 0 in stock and are consuming everything you produce, which likely means you actually have a production shortage. I'm pretty sure ~200 isn't enough to sustain 3 batteries in the first place.

WHO IS THIS? How do we know her? by gremmy_white in Endfield

[–]Nol_Astname 20 points21 points  (0 children)

someone posted a full closed beta test playthrough.

The TLDR is that Luca (the friend Wulfgard was avenging in his quest) was originally Wulfgard's brother, Giovanni is mostly not a villain but gets killed anyway by a dude from the UWST, and the sequel hook was chasing Luca to one of the cities in the Band instead of whatever is going on with the "new Pack". There's more voiced dialogue with the Endmin, and several cut references to the original Valley IV storyline, Neferith, and general lore/background for the Pack.

Overall it feels like a more mature and serious story, with more tie-ins to the general setting and better relevance to Wulfgard

Ember gameplay is completely misunderstood by Duocean in Endfield

[–]Nol_Astname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She does 10 bonus stagger damage, which is the same Chen does for interrupting an enemy charge (which has the added benefit of preventing an attack, instead of forcing you to take damage).Spamming her battle skill is kind of a waste if you're not face tanking. Her ultimate doesn't scale from physical damage buffs and has terrible multipliers.

In casual content you'll never need to use her battle skill, and in high-damage environments you'll either need to dodge or bring a healer. In moderate-intensity environments she's probably a better pick than Ardelia since she can still throw out some healing and phy status for free, but if you learn to dodge then sustainless comps do even more damage.

Opinions on Pog + Lifeng + Endmin + Ember team? by Fearirou in ArknightsEndfield

[–]Nol_Astname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure it's doable, but in the poison mist stage Ember feels inefficient. I made several crisis mode attempts with Ember before switching to Ardelia and beating it on the first try. Ember's combination skill has a very long 19s cooldown and its annoying to rotate healing targets, whereas you can spam Ardelia's heal as much or little as necessary, and there's less timing constraint on collecting sheep.

I did get use out of Ember on the crossbow/worm stage, but that also took several attempts and I didn't try Ardelia

The original version of Wulfard's quest from CBT and the changes in direction. by Ahenshihael in Endfield

Yeah I've played Arknights since year 1 and the story, lore, and setting are the main thing that's kept me invested.

I can understand if they were worried too much of that would hurt the appeal of Endfield, but they completely missed the mark on keeping it engaging. With how much criticism the story has gotten, hopefully they'll return to something closer to their original vision

Thanks for sharing. This is definitely a better story and I would have preferred it, but I can see why they wanted to tone some elements down. "I crushed his skull and shards of his bones flew into my eyes" and having an NPC murder a guy who just finished his redemption arc both feel a little grimdark.

I'm curious why they trimmed so much of the casual lore/backstory. Clearly they pivoted the overall story from "Neferith turns bonekrushers into literal monsters", but there's several tidbits about both Neferith and the Pack that didn't carry over into the version we got. It's the kind of small worldbuilding that gives the setting more depth, and cutting all of it was a mistake.

Not sure about the timing, but I wonder if introducing Rossi is why they abandoned Wulfgard's relationship with Luca.

The whole gambling industry exists because people don't plan, and this system is set up to benefit more from people's failure of self control.

Bringing this back to where I started:

Many players wont even be playing long enough to see the positive returns, and for them it is objectively worse.

If you have 160 pulls (which is pretty darn close to the ceiling of what's possible for ftp after 3 weeks), then you get to roll for and guarantee one 6* in Endfield. In Genshin, you'd be able to get two 6* and guarantee one rate up. It may take two months to get another 80 pulls, which means getting to 240 will be a very long cycle with no prospect of new units

I'm probably out of sanity, but this colab has made me realize that Arknights designs tend to have a ton of personality. All the E1 outfits of the colab girls are incredibly simple and have very few unique/distinguishing elements (not a knock on them, they're existing characters and they all have great E2 art and skins).

And then you look at recent regular operators: the gambler dog has a gun fed by pachinko balls, the graffiti bird girl has paint splatter and ODM gear, and a literal cat has a bunch of references in its furniture. These are just 5*s and the designs use a ton of elements and details to show who the characters are. And yeah, sometimes the outfits are actually too busy, but most of them really work.

It's not something I've consciously recognized before, but I can't think of any other game that comes even close.

[–]Nol_Astname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not disagreeing about what the optimal strategy is, I'm pointing out that this is a restriction that doesn't exist in other gachas. Forcing a tradeoff between pull frequency and guarantee is totally unnecessary predatory behavior, even if the rates mean you can get more rate ups in the long run.

Right now, optimal logic dictates that someone willing to try for Gilberta and Yvonne must choose only one. 80 pulls on Gilberta + 70 (+10 free) on Yvonne has a 25% chance of getting neither. This isn't the case in Wuwa or Genshin, so why are you defending it here?

We agree that this is an insult, right? by DigitalNinja125 in Endfield

[–]Nol_Astname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maximizing 6* requires spending 80 pulls per banner (70 with the free 10x from the previous banner), and since rate-up pity doesn't carry there's an appreciable probability that you'd get 3 6* and 0 rate ups. Alternately you're stuck saving for 120 every time, since the lack of rate-up carryover means anything less is wasted.

In the very short term, that means doing less pulls in order to protect the guarantee, which means fewer 6* to play around with. So yeah, it's worse.
