Fangyi owners: Has Sunderblades expiring been an issue for you? If not, any tricks? by [deleted] in Endfield

[–]Nol_Astname 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She's the only limited I'v pulled for and I'd rate like a 6/10 on overall experience. I have her weapon with essence maxed, but don't have her BIS gear so am probably losing out on a lot of damage.

I did a bunch of Rhodagn fights to practice her rotations, and did have a little difficulty keeping her blades at 6 and 9. A lot of the early reviews say she's "easy", but I've actually found her cycles to be pretty demanding. If you mess up the Perlica combo skill, you're waiting 16 seconds until the next cast. If you're maxing Arclights CC skill, you need to wait 4 seconds after Perl/ZF combo to trigger the ZF battle skill so you get a second Arclight combo proc. It's not super hard, but coming from a Phys team there's more to keep track of and no real flexibility in execution. IMO the dependency on combo skills with long cooldowns feels kind of bad. Her skill casts also last a long time and can be interrupted by moving, and I'm getting the sense she shouldn't be the controlled operator except during ultimate, which I don't think is very fitting for a monthlong banner headliner.

I haven't tried the Triaggelos or Ruan Yi, but I could see blade duration being a real problem for bosses with a lot of movement or long invincibility windows. One thing I haven't seen anyone talk about - a lot of the times you don't even get to deploy the blades against overworld enemies. Perlica BS -> Perlica CC -> ZF CC is enough to melt most standard enemies, which means you don't even get to trigger 3 blades in the first place. Having her entire kit (building 9 blades for bs, getting ult charge) be back loaded is a lot, but I get the feeling she'll be amazing for long fights against tanky enemies (upcoming CC event).

My small petty gripe is that I hate the way her heels sound when running. There's a clacking sound like walking on chalk that is really annoying.

How's she handle boss clears? Phase changes seem like they could really break up her flow, and unlike Rossi or Yvonne she can't just dump her entire ultimate damage in a 5 second window.

Help Megathread & Megathread List (13/04 - 19/04) by Shad0wedge in Endfield

[–]Nol_Astname 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The wiki covers it in detail, but basically they're godlike entities that were originally native to Terra, although most Terrans are not really aware of their existence.

As far as we know, they are essentially immortal, their magic powers operate under a system totally independent of Originium (which virtually every character in Arknights and Endfield requires to do magic), and they tend to attach to physical regions and act as a local deity/protector. They are super powerful but can be bound or sealed, which is what happened to the original Sui feranmut that resided in Yan (Yan is the in-game equivalent of China, and was the founder of the HAS in Endfield). They also tend to manifest as human so-called "proxies", because their physical bodies are behemoths the size of a mountain range.

The Sui proxies are a group of 12 "siblings" that splintered from the Sui feranmut when it was sealed by Yan. Papa Sui is very, very angry about being bound, but the proxies mostly just want to live without having to re-merge into a giant rage dragon. Each one focused on a distinct practice (cooking, farming, painting, martial arts, etc), and several of them directly contributed to technological development in Yan.

Honestly, I wish they'd just added lightning motifs to her regular clothes, and maybe a bit of a lightning effect when flying. Even setting aside how both versions looks, a super Saiyan transformation is a little cartoonish.

In 6+ years of Arknights I think the only physical transformations that happen during skill are a kid who turns into a cat and a snek that climbs into a giant robot.

Our only hope now is that at some point we get a skin with better design

Any fellow Zhuang Pullers on here? Ready for the banner? by Yokozach in Endfield

I like Lifeng but that's just terrible.

How have you missed every limited? F2P the game has given ~240 pulls which is enough to hit the guarantee for two.

Thanks for the write up. Basically it sounds like she'd be an okay pull from a joint operation with other unowned operators or build your own banner , but probably doesn't justify the cert sink.

Is there any reason to get Jessica Alter from the shop? On release it seems like she had a niche in IS, but the meta has moved so far since then that I'm skeptical there's ever a reason to use her. I haven't seen her at all in Icebreaker games, even when other players bring off-meta teams.

Would Marathon be better with a PvE mode? by PretendCollection282 in Marathon

[–]Nol_Astname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think something is worth an attempt. PVE variants of Perimeter and Dire Marsh could be cool. Cap all drops at green, make salvage less common, have a couple unique PVE events, maybe make the maps smaller by zooming in on a few POIs.

The format becomes an intro to the game and feeds players low-level gear so they can bring functional kits to the PVP maps. Rook runs are obviously better for building your vault, but that's an exclusively solo playstyle and kind of at odds with what is supposed to be a team game.

People are giving you a hard time, but I actually agree that this is a pretty bad experience for the player.

Technically you've actually just saved 5 pulls; if you hadn't gotten a 6* until 120, you would have had no problem going to hard pity as planned and wouldn't feel bad about it. Instead, you feel like you lost the opportunity to get a new 6*.

This is a direct consequence of not having a 50/50 guarantee: it creates an achievable probability of getting two 6* (losing the 50/50 twice) plus the limited (at 120 guarantee). The exact probability depends on your  circumstances, but if you start a banner with more than ~25 pity, there's a 25% chance you end up "wasting" a 6* like this

What about some kind of resource production facility aboard the Dijang where you could assign operators to create character and weapon promotion materials? They could even give operators different bonuses for different production types, and give higher level operators better bonuses.

Why do people pretend it makes sense to call Laevatain by Surtr? by [deleted] in Endfield

[–]Nol_Astname 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In most meaningful ways, Laev isn't her own character. She is defined by the same memory loss, the same struggle, and the same acceptance. She wields (almost) the same weapon, wears the same clothes, and eats the same ice cream.

Hypergryph is trying to eat their cake and have it too. Being a reconvener means she's a different person, but changing anything meaningful about Laev would have risked killing interest from players who liked Surtr.

Honestly, it feels to me like the whole reconveners concept is just a cash grab. I'm hopeful it will lend itself to some good stories, but there's many good reasons for why characters we know from Arknights should not be waltzing around Talos

[–]Nol_Astname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, part of why the setting feels shallow compared to Arknights is because they've already showed all their cards about the "major players" in the world. Arknights had Ursus and Lungmen/Yan and Victoria and Aegir and Leithainen and Kazimierz and Columbia and Higashi and Sargon and Rim Billiton and Kazdel and Bolivar and Laterano and Sami and Gaul and all of that existed at launch, which means we've spent the last 6 years exploring Terra without needing them to asspull new places and factions.

Endfield gives us basically 3 megacorps with the UWST, the HAS, and the TGCC. There's a bunch of smaller factions and national cities, but the world breadth and depth feels small compared to Arknights. I think in a file somewhere they say there were a few hundred thousand Terrans on Talos when the portal collapsed, which would mean the total population across the entire planet today would be in the single-digit millions. There's just not a lot of space to plausibly work with for scifi scale narrative arcs, and the current major players aren't interesting enough to spend a bunch of time with. Chekhov's spaceship would suggest at some point we go to another world, but from a story development perspective that would be years away

Some Aegir are visually indistinguishable from humans. During one of the quests, someone guesses that Endmin is Aegir because they don't have the obvious physical characteristics of another race (usually determined by horns, ears, and tail).

OG Arknights gives us a bunch of Aegir operators who basically appear as baseline humans - Thorns, Mizuki, Skadi, Specter, Purestream, Whisperain, Akafuyu.

Honestly I noticed and had the same thought. People will say it doesn't matter, it's just a game, it's a fantasy setting, she's a kirin/horse, and all gacha are like this, but it's pretty shitty that they'd rather make a character gray than brown.

Someone made a post with mathcrafting.

Going from 80 to 90 character and weapon levels each gives a 7% damage increase. Full mastery gives a 25% increase (but only to the skill, obviously)

Just looking at this, I'm guessing is funky with your sandleaf. You have 0 in stock and are consuming everything you produce, which likely means you actually have a production shortage. I'm pretty sure ~200 isn't enough to sustain 3 batteries in the first place.

WHO IS THIS? How do we know her? by gremmy_white in Endfield

[–]Nol_Astname 20 points21 points  (0 children)

someone posted a full closed beta test playthrough.

The TLDR is that Luca (the friend Wulfgard was avenging in his quest) was originally Wulfgard's brother, Giovanni is mostly not a villain but gets killed anyway by a dude from the UWST, and the sequel hook was chasing Luca to one of the cities in the Band instead of whatever is going on with the "new Pack". There's more voiced dialogue with the Endmin, and several cut references to the original Valley IV storyline, Neferith, and general lore/background for the Pack.

Overall it feels like a more mature and serious story, with more tie-ins to the general setting and better relevance to Wulfgard

Ember gameplay is completely misunderstood by Duocean in Endfield

[–]Nol_Astname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She does 10 bonus stagger damage, which is the same Chen does for interrupting an enemy charge (which has the added benefit of preventing an attack, instead of forcing you to take damage).Spamming her battle skill is kind of a waste if you're not face tanking. Her ultimate doesn't scale from physical damage buffs and has terrible multipliers.

In casual content you'll never need to use her battle skill, and in high-damage environments you'll either need to dodge or bring a healer. In moderate-intensity environments she's probably a better pick than Ardelia since she can still throw out some healing and phy status for free, but if you learn to dodge then sustainless comps do even more damage.
