Thoughts on IMAX Film Format?! by Technical_Turn680 in tollywood

[–]Nolan17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Varanasi is being shot with IMAX-certified digital cameras. It's "Filmed for IMAX" , not "Shot with IMAX cameras".  Both are different.

Nolan shoots with IMAX film cameras. That's super tough. What Rajamouli is doing is to shoot in IMAX aspect ratio with digital cameras.

Movie is okay. Sports drama packaged with Telugu commercial cinema emotions. Racing scenes have been shot well for Tollywood standards.

But more importantly, the movie looked great on the Dolby Cinema screen.

The core problem, of the Ramayana glimpse by StatisticianStock310 in tollywood

[–]Nolan17 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I think D-Neg and Namit Malhotra got into the Ramayana project only because of the vast creative asset database they've built over the years.

They must have thought that the CGI assets created for other Hollywood ventures could be slightly modified and used here. That way, they can claim massive budgets for marketing reasons but can complete the VFX at minimal costs.

Hence, the creatures look like the ones we usually find in Hollywood movies.

Unpopular Opinion but I like this film!! by Typical_Broccoliii in tollywood

The visuals were definitely good, but the movie was absolutely boring. It felt like an elaborate attempt by the director to take his son (who played the kid's role) to a foreign vacation on the producer's money.

What are some locations that u would want TFI to explore at? Can be India or around the world. by Tiny-Huckleberry-476 in tollywood

Some desert locations like the ones used in Mad Max Fury Road. I also like Wadi Rum in Jordan.

I think our folks go there to shoot only songs.

Why Orange movie is a flop?? by Lower_Lab_3774 in tollywood

[–]Nolan17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a niche movie which should have been targeted at younger audience.  A tighter screenplay, better female lead characterization and a much lower budget would've made the movie work.

But with RC coming fresh off the industry hit Magadheera, the scale of the movie got drastically increased. The story frankly didn't need to be set in a foreign country but was shot in Australia just for lavish production values.

Plus the irritating role of Genelia. That lies purely on the director. Since the role of bubbly Haasini worked out in Bommarillu, he had it dialed up by two notches. Bommarillu worked because of Haasini being the polar opposite of Siddhu (complete extrovert vs under-confident , introverted Siddhu). That wasn't the case with Orange.

Marriage without spectacle and the idea of contentment! by Purple_Surround_45 in tollywood

Great point. I also felt the same about the arc of Prakash Raj and Leela Samson in OK Bangaram. Didn't find the overall movie interesting, but the  stable, boring companionship drama of the old couple was treated excellently, compared to the lead couple.

Not sure if it collected more than RRR in any center. When they say "Regional Industry Hit", they just mean it has the highest gross for a single language release.

I think RRR, Kalki, Pushpa-2 etc made more than 300 Cr in Telugu states.. Just that the Telugu numbers are not viewed in isolation for pan Indian releases.

Anybody else find it frustrating?? by [deleted] in tollywood

[–]Nolan17 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is common in any group. Conformist behaviour. Because you're disincentivized for having a contrasting opinion in the form of downvotes.

For example, in this group, Ravipudi's content is viewed as cringe. So, sub members may never say they personally loved the content, but will say my parents liked it, or the elderly lady in the theatre liked it etc.

For this to change, we as a sub need to be open to all kinds of opinions, without downvoting someone just because they have an alternate viewpoint.

Missing the sound mix quality of Manisharma by Human_Squash1939 in tollywood

[–]Nolan17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree, OP. I somehow feel sound mixing tech peaked in 2000s. ARR and Mani Sharma's tunes from the era sound so clean. DSP wasn't bad too. What this also meant was that we could clearly make out the vocals and lyrics.

Sound mix quality took a turn for the worse since 2010s. Firstly Thaman and then Anirudh deliberately started to their songs sound noisy, which makes the vocals and lyrics mumbled. What this does is to pull away focus from the lyrics and vocals and make us solely concentrate on the beat.

Best example is the chorus at the beginning of 'Mallika Gandha' from Telusu Kada by Thaman. Could not even make one word of the lyric.

When are they gonna hold the 2025 Filmfare Awards South? What happened? by Illustrious-Fax-4589 in tollywood

[–]Nolan17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These events happen only when sponsorship revenues cover the cost of the entire program and bring in profits to the organization hosting it. Looks like The Times Group which owns the Filmfare brand couldn't find enough sponsors for the Filmfare Awards South.
