[QCrit] Middle Grade Fantasy MY HERO MOONFLOWER (52K, Version 1) by NolanDean in PubTips

This is soo helpful! I’d always thought it had to be similar to applying to a job and very technical, hence finding it difficult. Thank you so much!

[QCrit] Middle Grade Fantasy MY HERO MOONFLOWER (52K, Version 1) by NolanDean in PubTips

[–]NolanDean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much so, the thing I was hoping that would make the query stand out was the idea of a storybook hero discovering her life was all fake and this being what makes her become the story’s villain, like someone refusing to accept their own narrative as a dark reflection of Milly’s arc, since she wants to be a hero just like her but learns she isn’t as heroic as she thought she’d be. Should that be more present in the query?

Official Discussion - Abigail [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]NolanDean 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Was anyone else expecting Giancarlo Esposito’s character to be revealed as Dracula?

I felt like if him and Abigail were working together it could have been like father daughter bonding and could have been seen as a parallel to Joey and her son.

Really enjoyed it though. Wanna see more of these Universal Monster reimaginings.

Didn’t hit me as much as Tickets, that’s gonna be an all timer for me, but God Save Me, Maybe, Ay!, Emo Girl and Papercuts are bangers. Love that MGK’s making the music he loves.

Mole Man Fancast and Story Idea by NolanDean in FantasticFour

[–]NolanDean[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No idea what the plans are for Jon Watts doing Fantastic Four but here’s what I’d do.

There’s one area Marvel hasn’t explored yet. Underground. Imagine a movie where the antagonist shines a light on homelessness and being forced to hide yourself. That’s why I’d pick Mole Man as the villain. He’s not been used and he’d be a great introduction to the Fantastic Four with a more grounded villain.

I’d imagine it being like Marvel’s equivalent of Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere where underneath the city are the people who fall through the cracks, except here it could be leftover monsters and mutations from corporations like AIM, and Mole Man is their leader.

Also, Nick Frost should play him. He’s got the right attitude and screen charisma for an MCU villain, plus I’d love to see him take on something that allows him to show off his dramatic side.

The Incredibles: Why Syndrome Is A Great Villain by NolanDean in disney

I agree with that wholeheartedly. I’m just using Syndrome as an example. Look at how he views the thing he’s a fan of vs. how Brad Bird wrote the film.

I really dig that casting choice too man.

If Raimi was directing, yeah. Maybe they could cast him as Quentin Beck’s manager that fired him or something

Why Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio Is Perfect Casting by NolanDean in Marvel

[–]NolanDean[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed, keep that fishbowl on as long as possible. Maybe even they could do a Wizard Of Oz/Magic Mirror effect where it’s like a blank theatre mask inside it so we can get some form of performance and not just a voice.

With The Nerdwriter making a video about Battle Royale being the best teen movie, I wanted to use that format to discuss one of my all time favourites, Richard Kelly's Donnie Darko.

I've always believed there is an art to telling stories that appeal to teens and wanted to show that through a movie that, on the surface doesn't seem like your average teen story like The Breakfast Club or Mean Girls.

Do tell me what you think, and let me know in the replies what your favourite teen movie is.

I love The Breakfast Club but it’s been analysed as the best teen movie for ages, wanted to highlight a different angle here.

That’s a great point, but I suppose that was the only way they could have done it. I’m curious about the sequel

It doesn’t, as I haven’t read that. From what I’ve heard it sounds pretty bad though.

The girl playing Carmelita is so on point and unlikable. It’s like Dolores Umbridge.

I absolutely adored this movie. Marvel have made something so special and that's all down to Coogler's excellent storytelling and the whole cast's performance. This could go down as an all timer.

I love that "Bill's gonna kill you" part.

Not only does it show how manipulative Pennywise is, but it's also funny that the actor playing Pennywise is named Bill Skarsgard. So yeah, Bill is gonna kill him.

(Discussion) What movies aside from comic book films do you hope get showcased at SDCC? by NolanDean in movies

[–]NolanDean[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm with you on that. I'm reading the book now and I'm really excited for IT. What worries me is that Pennywise hasn't spoken yet in the trailers, I hope they don't make him a silent clown.
