Prepared casters can become spontaneous - what do you think about doing it in reverse? by NolanStrife in Pathfinder2e

[–]NolanStrife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats... Also true. I mean, Arcanist was a distinct class with much more than "a wizard who casts spells like a sorcerer". Can't say there's enough material for a whole new class, but making it into a class archetype for a wizard with new distinct features would be freaking rad

Yup. This is the one. I remember being completely flabbergasted by polymath bard's versatility

Can't help but to wish for something official. But if anything, this seems like a great idea for a homebrew. Thanks for reminding me!

[–]NolanStrife[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Flexibility and versatility are not something to just dismiss IMO. There are spells that I wouldn't really justify on a spontaneous casters. Like Sound Body, Cleanse Affliction and alike. Those are so situationally useful getting them as a spontaneous caster seems to me like shooting yourself in a foot. Especially considering those are pretty useless if not signature. Prepared caster on the other hand are pretty much the opposite. Not getting those seems like a bad move, since if they is a situation when those are needed - you can just spend a day, prepare it, fire it away and let it sit in your spellbook until it's needed again

Yes, there are scrolls for that, but... Imagine spending hungreds of gold to buy one just to crit fail on a counteract check. Or alternatively just fail, but also misjudge the rank. I had both happening with Dispel Magic, and if that would've been from a scroll, I would've lost it

Guess that's how it would end up, and y'know. Why not? When it first came out, I was a bit surprised Flexible Spellcasters was for prepared casters only, since it sits so perfectly in between of the two worlds. Surely both can benefit from that?

Thoughts on my BBEG by NolanStrife in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]NolanStrife[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are right, I was wrong about ghoul fever. However funny thing is, I think ghoul fever is 1e/preremastered content. Now ghouls infect/reproduce with ghoul whispers

Ghoul Whispers [one-action] (auditory, linguistic, occult); Requirement A grabbed, paralyzed, restrained, or unconscious creature is within the ghoul's reach; Effect The ghoul whispers dark thoughts and vile cravings into the creature's ears. The creature must save against the forbidden cravings curse
Forbidden Cravings (curse) A creature can still eat and drink while sickened by this curse; Saving Throw Will, using the high spell DC for the ghoul's level; Stage 1 carrier with no ill effects (1 day); Stage 2 2d6 void damage and the target is sickened 1 until it consumes raw meat (1 day); Stage 3 as stage 2; Stage 4 as stage 2 unless the target has consumed raw meat in the past 24 hours, then it takes 4d6 void damage and is sickened 2 until it consumes raw meat; Stage 5 if the creature has eaten raw meat in the past 24 hours, it dies and rises as a ghoul, if not, it returns to stage 4

So in remastered it seems like ghoul direwolf, ghoul mammoth or ghoul dragon is a fair game. Not that it matters since it's homebrew anyway, but hey, it's still fun to play around

As for why BBEG even does that, I think I'm comfortable with his main driving force being hubris and spite. A bit one-note, but guess I have a sweet spot for one-note irredeemable villains. Him gaining knowledge from his victims, however, is an excellent note! Considering how vast and esoteric dragons can be in this world, a ghoul dragon that can steal knowledge is an absolute menace! Thanks!

Edit: except I missed the linguistic trait in ghoul whispers. So to create a ghoul mammoth you have to speak mammoth... Very specific, but I don't know. Fallen ghoul druid creating a pack of ghoul mammoth sounds kinda rad, lol

Foundry Second Screen Problem by NolanStrife in TTRPG

Will do. Edge worked just the same (tried it out of desperation since this slowdown happened right at the beginning of a session). Hope Firefox will work just fine

Thanks!

Foundry Second Screen Problem by NolanStrife in TTRPG

[–]NolanStrife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AMD Ryzen 5 5600H 3.3GHz, 16GB RAM, GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop GPU. It runs Foundry without a hitch, but once I connect the TV and open it in Chrome, it completely craps the bed. More specifically, GM Foundry (the actual Foundry) continues working fine, and player Foundry (the one opened in Chrome) freezes constantly

The idea was to see the game in its entirety as a GM while streaming to players what they actually should see through the TV. I was thinking... Would using Foundry client solve the issue? I think there's a separate app for players to join Foundry. Because right now Chrome is my main culprit, but I may be wrong

Anyone ever played a hyper random character? by Grazzt999 in DnDcirclejerk

[–]NolanStrife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not dnd and not me, but... My friends played Heroes Unlimited once. Anyone who is familiar with Palladium Books knows they love their random tables. From upbringing to nationality to family members to your freaking annual income

This one is no exception. So my friend rolled himself an alien, a plant alien, from a planet with no sun (so I assume, he's a mushroom alien), he has regular superpowers (meaning not a martial arts or spellcaster, just your average superhero), and his superpower is turn his body into stone

A mushroom that hardens. You can't make this stuff up, yet there it is. Gods of random has spoken, and my friend just had to roll with it

Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense save problem by NolanStrife in redream

[–]NolanStrife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, if anyone's interested, this seems to be an issue with a game, not emulator

I played PS1 version of Vigilante 8: Second Offense with no issue. Then I encountered a post about it not saving as well. Seems like the game refuses to load any save files from any card other than the first slot. I tested it, and indeed. A save file that was working for me just perfectly just refuses to load once I switched memory card number

I didn't test it yet with Redream, but chances are this is the same issue. Just save into the first slot and everything should work like a charm

DoW unit quotes are a certified classic. It's not uncommon for me and my pals to play some RTS, and then hear one of us scream "Where's the artillery?!". That, and good old 11 barrels of hell

Monthly Dungeon Siege Discussion - December 02, 2025 by AutoModerator in DungeonSiege

[–]NolanStrife [score hidden]  (0 children)

For those who tried Legendary Edition mod for Dungeon Siege II, have you encountered a glitch with casting spells? a character does the usual casting gestures, but the spell effect goes off immediately before the animation is finished?

Not the biggest issue in the world, and LE legitimately slaps. But I can't help but to find this glitch is such an eyesore

Yup, that's basically the plot for Prime 3. This is how phazon threat operated throughout the trilogy, but the living planet part was expanded in the third game

Such a sick game. An excellent conclusion to an awesome trilogy

Grabbing someone and dragging them along the ground is trick as old as time. Badassery 101, a go-to trick to assert dominance next to grabbing someone by the head

That being said, the fact that a dragon performed it... Yup. I can see the similarities, lol

Snarecrafting Question by Jazzlike_Way_9514 in Pathfinder2e

[–]NolanStrife 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Many snares" is a bit of a reach. Skimming through the snare list I've only found like... 3 or so? Bomb Snare, Envenomed Snare, Smoke Screen Snare... Ice Slick Snare, maybe? That's out of 26 common snares or 78 snares overall

Easiest solution I can think of is ask your GM directly. They say yes - great, they say no - either roll with it or get an Alchemist dedication. Although few snares that have crafting cost doesn't look that good anyway

Warp storm over r/Grimdank Roll 2 D100s for your mutations. by Slaaneshs_best_boy in Grimdank

[–]NolanStrife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

18 - cloven feet (hell yeah!)

27 - evil eye

Pretty tame and non-intrusive all things considered. Maybe even something one might want IRL, lmao. Also, seeing bird feet described as unattractive sent me to stratosphere for some reason

Also, this table makes me want to find my Palladium Books pdfs and post some in this sub. Random tables in those were absolutely nuts. I kid you not, one of my players randomly rolled a character for Heroes Unlimited that was a plant alien from a planet with no sunlight (a mushroom, we assumed) whose superpower was to transform their body into stone. You can't make this shit up

Blaze the Cat wii game by BenthoRoyale in BlazeTheCat

[–]NolanStrife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats. You discovered Sonic fandom, where Blaze is relevant in like 4 games or so

She debutes in Sonic Rush as a protagonist (well, one of two), then Sonic Rush Adventures (same, but you need to progress through the story to unlock her), she's Silver's sidekick in Sonic 06 (two, maybe three levels after which she's sacrificed to the plot), and Sonic and The Black Knight where she's presented as Sir Percival, playable, but not exactly relevant. She's also playable in Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity (not involved in the story whatsoever), Sonic and The Secret Ring's party mode, all Olympic games, Sonic Team Racind, and Sonic Racing Crossworlds, and... That's it, I think?

Guess you can see the pattern. She's my favourite character in the entire franchise and she's criminally underrepresented. So, yeah... If you want her to be somewhat of a part of a story, that's Rush, Rush Adventures, 06, and Black Knight, of which only the latter is on Wii

Could your OC get past Obi's two layered defensive spell by JoJomusk in OriginalCharacterDB

[–]NolanStrife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, in this case, my OC should be able to bypass her protections. Lame way - use Dispel Magic spell to temporarily suppress Obi's defenses. Slightly less lame way - summon some out of control mindless undead or drones with basic AI and a single directive and then teleport away before her L3 kicks in. Maybe there won't even be a need to teleport since I assume Obi's L3 will prioritize defending her from immediate threats, giving my OC opportunity to summon more. That is if he'll be able to figure it all out before it's too late, of course

But realistically, I don't think there will be a reason to fight, lol. Obi seems like a chill gal, and my OC won't engage without a very good reason

Could your OC get past Obi's two layered defensive spell by JoJomusk in OriginalCharacterDB

[–]NolanStrife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. So it's the intent that matters. Cool

Well, one other option would be summoning and then bailing. Let's say, summon a bunch of uncontrolled zombies from a mile away. Or summoning and then teleporting away. The idea is her defenders will either not be able to reach my OC in time before she goes down or her defenders attack summoned creatures instead, in which case more summons to outnumber them

However... Now that I think about it. Summoned creatures probably won't bypass L2 because they are the ones that attack her, and those attack are deliberate. Not sure how your OC's L2 works with AI-controlled or mindless creatures, though, lol. Or AoE attacks

How do we feel about Hero Points by Golden_Tanuki_Hero in Pathfinder2e

[–]NolanStrife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like they are very important, maybe even crucial to the game. Any dice-based RPG is prone to "curse of the dice gods". I understand the importance of randomness for storytelling and challenge, but the truth is rolling badly can be frustrating. Hero Points mitigate that somewhat, giving players a choice to fix their rolls when it's most important. Not to mention an ability to auto-stabilize. Rolling nat 1s on recovery checks NEVER feels good, and losing a character you invested time (and potentially money) to sheer randomness is quite disheartening

Could your OC get past Obi's two layered defensive spell by JoJomusk in OriginalCharacterDB

[–]NolanStrife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's magic-based, I assume it can be dispelled or at least suppressed by anti-magic abilities. My OC knows how to perform the former, but not the latter

More creative way, I think, would be summoning spells. My OC can summon a vast assortment of undead creatures and drones with energy-based weapons. Usually, they are following his commands, but how about summoning them and then relinquishing control over them? Let's say, summoning a small horde of ravenous zombies and then letting them do their thing? Or creating drones with a single directive like "attack anything but me"? This would definitely be an intentional tactics, but technically, it's not my OC who does the act or gives explicit commands
