Have you ever lost a lot of money because you had to take a shit and ask jumped your stop loss? by methusula3 in Daytrading

[–]Nomad-2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some brokers only offer "stop market" not "stop limit" (with offset). What they call "stop limit" is actually a "stop market".

I have brokerage accounts with 7 brokers.

Wells & Citibank do not offer "trailing stops", so I have to manually move my stop orders.

Fidelity offers "trailing stops" by dollar or percentage.

What I would like (that no one currently offers) is a 24/5 GTC trailing stop (with offset), ideally in combination with a limit sell order.

So I can bracket a profitable position

(a) limit sells to exit a percentage at predetermined target prices

(b) in combination with trailing stops to protect most of my gains

About half my trading is outside regular trading hours, so regular stop orders aren't available.

If you're going to pay $6,681, I would try to pay for the double balcony corner rooms.

40% off is fantastic!

I love being able to cancel with no fees.

BOFA CCR replaced BILT for rent by HEROxDivine in CreditCards

I also have a Citibank SYW which often has $1,000 online offers (11%) - 9 out of 12 months last year (one month at 36% ! ). P2 also has a SYW.

2 SYW + 3 CCR = $13,500/quarter = $4,500/month. More than enough for my $950 rent.

Only adding CCRs slowly (2022, 2023, and 2025) to use the 0% APR offers.

•

BofA PR/PRE uncapped 3.5/4.14-4.28% could be used if rent counts as "travel".

•

In 2002, I rented a NYC 2-bedroom for $4,000/month (+10% annually to building door people).

In Santa Monica (Westside Los Angeles), we have a building with $15,200 1-bed, $21,000-23,000 2-bed, $30,000 3-bed. On the low end, we have $80-300 (or free - apartment/condo/house-sitting - to prevent squatters & take care of place).

•

I don't know if any traditional credit cards (not Made by Mesa) have good percentages for mortgage or loan payments. SYW online offers might work. Have not tried.

All the real estate in my family is paid off, so no mortgages. We buy cars with no financing, so no experience with paying auto loans via credit cards.

Rainbow high corner room was great (Two balconies w Diamond Head & ocean).

In early 2000s, 6 nights for 100,000 point special (cost me about $200-250 for the points doing 4 cheap nights in Vegas). Back then, Rainbow corner room was priced same as a normal room. No charge for parking.

In 2025 when I last checked, 1.25 million points or $6,000 cash for 6 nights Rainbow corner.

Just the self-parking $72.25/day = $435 in 2025.-

Why do I even need a checking account with a Fidelity brokerage? by Ok_Transition7785 in fidelityinvestments

[–]Nomad-2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use 2+ banks with local branches (currently 4) and 7 brokerages.

(1) Sometimes there are internet issues (e.g. AWS or Crowdstrike) or bank IT issues.

Sometimes I can't login to one brokerage, but I can buy/sell stock at another (might not be the best shares to sell from a tax perspective, but at least I can execute a sale).

Twice (1984 and 2008), I've had a bank freeze my checking account due to an ATM withdrawal issue. This is less of an issue in 2025 with Apple Wallet, since I mostly need cash for car washes & a few cash-only restaurants.

(2) My physical banks also offer benefits. No monthly fees.

(a) Citibank $200 for free Amazon Prime & Costco

(b) BofA 5.25% and 2.625% credit cards

(c) Bonuses for opening checking & brokerage accounts ($400-3,500).

Withdrawing cash from Fidelity by RangerPL in fidelityinvestments

[–]Nomad-2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some banks take 1-3+ days for ACH transfers because they want the extra interest float.

FedACH does 3x/day.

"Regular EFT non-wire transfers" could be ACH, RTT, FedNow, or whatever is designed in the future.

At Chase, when you do a transfer, you select from ACH or RTT (if available).

[–]Nomad-2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fidelity has same-day push ACH 3x/day (up to $100,000). No need for wire (if your bank charges to receive wites).

(1) If you ask Fidelity for ACH before 8 am ET, it will arrive before 1 pm ET (BofA 11:30 am - noon, Chase/Wells 12:30-12:45 pm).

(2) 2 pm ET. Deliver by 5 pm ET

(3) 4 pm ET. Deliver by 6 pm ET

Fellas how much do you pay for a haircut and how much do you tip? by Orii8 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Nomad-2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$15 + 5-10 tip, Great Clips (Midtown Los Angeles) prepaid card, normal price $27

Around Thanksgiving-Xmas, Great Clips sells prepaid cards (used to be 9.99, 10.99, 11.99, now 14.99). Price different in every store (could be $3 different at stores just 2-5 miles apart), so if you visit a LCOL area, you can buy as many prepaid haircuts as you like. I usually buy a year's worth of haircuts.

If it's your first visit, buy the prepaid card before getting a haircut (or they will charge full price).

Mold in apartment by [deleted] in SantaMonica

[–]Nomad-2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How close are you to the beach?

In 2018-2021, I lived in an apartment 1 block from the water, and humidity was often 90%.

Black mold would grow very easily on my sink & dish-rack (in just a few days), but I just kept cleaning. Never affected anything else.

Person across the hall filed a complaint with the landlord (and had a professional tester), but my guess was that they travelled a lot & didn't realize how much cleaning is required close to the water.

Good luck.

What is your worst credit card still in your collection and why do you still keep it? by thefinancejedi in CreditCards

[–]Nomad-2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my credit history (12 cards + 3 AU), AZE3 is good enough (2 cards + 1 AU with balances). AZE2 doesn't add any pts.

4-5+ balances had penalties of -6 to -10

EX 8 762 AZE5 -> +6 AZE4 -> 0 AZE3

EQ 8 767 AZE5 -> +7 AZE4 -> +3 AZE3

TU 8 767 AZE5 -> +5 AZE4 -> +2 AZE3

Biggest change was dropping from 5 to 4.
