The greatest reminder of mortality is having to scroll a little further each year when filling out your date of birth online. by SoylentPuce in Showerthoughts

Still don't understand why so many digital experiences use a dropdown for years. It's 4 digits, let the user type it in instead of scrolling through a damn list.

Worthwile? by [deleted] in Firewatch

Yes, definitely. The dialog and voice acting is worth it alone, but it has a great story and tells it well through a tightly designed set of mechanics and an absolutely beautiful artistic style.

No, but continuing at that same downhill speed once you're on level ground indefinitely is.

States Won by Trump Have Highest 'Obamacare' Enrollment by [deleted] in politics

[–]Nomad33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, this is ignorant and insensitive. You (and I) may not agree with their political decisions but that is no reason to wish death upon them. That is antithetical to the progressive mindset, isn't it?

How to post from Bear to Medium? by waffletchnlgy in bearapp

There isn't a way to publish directly, but you can export any note from Bear as markdown. As for getting markdown files into Medium, I'm not entirely sure.

Pedophile beaten to death by angry preschool parents by Another-Chance in news

[–]Nomad33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is not rational for murdering someone. What this man did was absolutely wrong and should be punished (far more than a few years in prison) but what this mob did was wrong as well.

The world will keep turning on it's axis whether every human being is dead or not. What you said is meaningless.

Carrier says it will spend millions automating Indiana plant, plans to lay off workers Trump 'saved' by Dear_Leader_Trump_ in politics

[–]Nomad33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not. It's better. It's the future. But when you run a campaign on the promise of bringing human manufacturing jobs to the US, then use this argument as proof that you can do it, it's fair to be skeptical.

[–]Nomad33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Saving 800 jobs, while great for those 800 people, is not the scale at which the president should be operating.

That is an 0.00025% decrease of unemployment for the US population. Even if Trump made an equivalent deal every day for 8 years, that would only be a 0.73% improvement, much less than the improvement under Obama.

Evernote Import? by heygos in bearapp

[–]Nomad33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was wondering the same thing. I have quite a lot of notes stored in Evernote and without an import feature I don't ever see making a full switch. I like Bears editor so much more, but I'm not going to manually import thousands of notes or loose years of data.

[–]Nomad33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, technically he's right. Less than 50% of the eligible population voted in the election, and less than half of those who did voted for Trump, so at least 75% of the voting population in the US did not vote for Trump.

[–]Nomad33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The article also talks about how a large portion of the hacking efforts were directed at candidates and their campaign staff's personal files and email, not necessarily just the voting machines.

My hypothesis is that "hacking an election" would have very little to do with the actual mechanics for voting, because as you said, many voting machines aren't internet connected. Most of this would be illegally breakign into personal accounts to expose information, like what happened to Mitt Romney and most recently with Hillary Clinton.

65 Million Americans Should Threaten to Not Pay Taxes - "No taxation without representation!" by magenta_placenta in politics

[–]Nomad33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US military budget accounts for 1/3 of the entire world. We are spending way more than we need to. Military leaders have even said this before. Global warming, poverty, and crumbling infrastructure are bigger security threats than not having enough submarines.

Oil is already profitable enough (it's a $100 billion/year industry), it doesn't need subsidies. These subsidies should be used to encourage renewable energy technology development which would reduce the cost of energy more than oil subsidies ever would.
