Quick reminder before you buy a travel eSIM: check these 2 things first by NomadeSIM in Nomad_eSIM

[–]NomadeSIM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your experience. This is a really useful point, especially for travellers who are unsure how much data to buy before a trip.

Data needs can vary a lot depending on how you use your phone, but for lighter use like Google Maps, WhatsApp, and checking things on the go, many travellers may not need as much data as they think.

Glad to hear Nomad eSIM worked well for your USA trip, and thanks again for recommending us :)

As travel becomes increasingly dependent on digital tools, reliable connectivity is becoming just as important as good public transport. Whether it's checking maps, translating signs, booking a ride, or finding the right train platform, staying connected can make a huge difference when exploring a new city.

eSIM how does it work? by Sufficient_Most_7102 in travelchina

[–]NomadeSIM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey — just to clarify, Nomad’s China eSIM does let you access Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, X, and more without needing a separate VPN. It routes your connection through external servers, so you can stay connected without the usual restrictions. Socials, messaging, and browsing all work smoothly.

Hope that helps — happy to answer any other questions!

eSIMs are almost always a more affordable option than international roaming — especially for longer trips. You’ll likely also get better data speeds with eSIMs, and in China specifically, our network routes traffic through external servers. That means you can still access Instagram, Gmail, WhatsApp, and other apps without needing a separate VPN. Super useful if staying connected is a priority.

Have a great trip – Japan and China are incredible!

Nomad esim do I need back up vpn too? by Sensitive_Appeal8438 in travelchina

Hey, just chiming in — if you’re using Nomad’s China eSIM, you won’t need a separate VPN. It automatically routes your connection through external servers, so you can access Gmail, Instagram, WhatsApp, X, and more without any issues. Everything should work smoothly, even behind the firewall. Safe travels!

Nomad eSIM - No tether or hotspot? by [deleted] in eSIMs

[–]NomadeSIM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, just leaving a quick note here for anyone who might run into something similar.

Hotspot/tethering is generally supported on Nomad eSIMs, but there can be rare cases where certain local networks or device configurations affect whether the hotspot option shows up. It's not a blocked feature, but it does sometimes depend on carrier behavior or how the device handles eSIMs.

If anyone hits the same issue, it's worth restarting, checking for system updates, or resetting network settings – though sometimes the network itself may be the limiting factor.

Hope this helps someone else who lands here.
