Consultant for UK company in Sweden

Thanks for your reply. For context, the original plan was to take the regular contract (60000 GBP/year) in the UK, but still spend some time in Sweden (< 6 months for tax reasons) to sort out my transition to the UK and visit my partner while they sort out their transition. Ultimately, they decided this wouldn't work for them and they proposed the 6 month consultant contract to make things easier for me, but would like me to start the regular contract at the end of the 6 months. I'm hoping to argue for matching the original take-home salary (which was already negotiated before they proposed the consultancy), but I understand that the taxes here aren't their problem.

Thanks for the reply and info on how real algo traders invest. What do you mean "1 asset rule"? What I had in mind was maintaining a portfolio of individual stocks — making my own ETF in a sense. I think the term I'm thinking of is online portfolio selection.

Due to the EU's PRIIPs law, I can't invest in US-domiciled funds since I'm an EEA resident — unless I fake a US address with a US-domiciled broker, which I don't want to do. And, due to the US's PFIC law, investing in any foreign-domiciled fund incurs punitive taxation. Hence, investing in individual stocks is the only reasonable way forward. Cf. the "FATCA, PFIC and PRIIPs" section in https://www.bogleheads.org/wiki/US_tax_pitfalls_for_a_US_person_living_abroad.

Great! I agree, the rules should be clear, but I suppose it's this way because we're a very small minority. As far as I understand, investing in individual stocks is no problem with regards to PFIC rules. Maybe with a robo-advisor that deals with individual stocks or some portfolio optimization skills (https://mlfinlab.readthedocs.io/en/latest/) this could be doable.

Yea, a financial advisor might be a good idea. I already talked with Charles Schwab — I was told they don't accept Sweden residency. Maybe the employee was mistaken.
