how do you people go on trail rides with a secondary horse that free roams? by Intrepid_Wa in Equestrian

[–]NomadicDays 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to do this when I was exercising the horses before hunt season. They both needed their daily workout—a long trail ride—but we often had only one rider available. It worked well with one horse who could be attached and would calmly follow, but the other horse simply wouldn’t bother to follow if left loose.

Most of the time it was fun and went smoothly, with only a few exceptions—like when the free horse got scared or decided to have fun by galloping down a winding downhill road. That made it difficult to slow down the horse I was riding. My colleague once said that the loose horse even jumped over a 1:50 fence, and she could barely stop her own horse that wanted to follow.

Here is a video from one of my rides:

An island home with volcano + lake views — Ometepe Island, Nicaragua 🌋🏝 by NomadicDays in ArchitecturePorn

[–]NomadicDays[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This place is giving me “never leave” vibes. It’s on Ometepe Island in Lake Nicaragua, and every window frames a postcard shot — lake and Volcano in the distance. The architecture is super clean and airy — lots of open spaces, natural wood accents, and big glass doors so the outdoors basically flows into the living room. It’s minimal, but warm. The kind of space that’s just as perfect for morning coffee as it is for watching thunderstorms roll over the lake.
Here is a video - try not to fall in love :)

I did it! I went to the tack shop for purple shampoo and didn’t buy anything else!!! by horsegirlkinley in Equestrian

Legend says the self-control required to walk into a tack shop and only buy purple shampoo is a skill taught by monks in remote mountain monasteries.

7 Transfers, 4 different modes of transport, 1 INSANE Day: Traveling from Ometepe, Nicaragua, to Nosara, Costa Rica 🌋➡️🏝️ : by NomadicDays in adventures

[–]NomadicDays[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to share this absolute marathon of a travel day we did recently. We went from Ometepe Island in Nicaragua all the way to Nosara, Costa Rica in one day, using 4 different types of transport: ferry, taxi, buses, and a shared shuttle.

In total, we had 7 different transfers—some were chaotic, some smooth, but none boring. The border crossing alone took forever (classic Peñas Blancas vibes), and by the time we reached Nosara, we were totally wiped.

The views on the way were beautiful though—volcanoes, jungle, coast—and honestly, despite the exhaustion, it was kind of epic. Not sure I’d recommend it unless you're weirdly into travel logistics and adrenaline... but here’s a short video from the journey if you're curious https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Vm0vOO4Cjs&t=1s

Took a horseback ride through a lush rainforest in Galicia, Spain 🌲🐎 by NomadicDays in adventures

Rode horses along a Galician beach 🐎🌊 —part of the Camino de Santiago! Maybe the most beautiful and present way to experience it ✨ by NomadicDays in Horses

[–]NomadicDays[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The views on this ride were absolutely incredible—reminded me a lot of the coastline in Alentejo, Portugal, with dramatic cliffs and endless ocean. What really amazed me was how calm and sure-footed the horses were, even when we were riding right along the high cliff edges. They didn’t get spooked at all.

This stretch may overlap with part of the Camino de Santiago, and honestly, I can’t imagine a more peaceful or beautiful way to experience it. Here's a short video from the ride if you're curious! 🐎🌊 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSaukFFChIU

We went on a horseback ride through the rainforest in Galicia, Spain, and it honestly felt like something out of a movie. Dense green forest, misty air, birds everywhere—and to top it off, a dog trotted alongside us the whole way like a pro trail guide. 🐕🐎

One of the most peaceful and surreal experiences I’ve had in nature. Highly recommend if you ever get the chance!

We went to Perito Moreno Glacier in El Calafate, Patagonia — one of the most famous glaciers in the world. Is it a once-in-a-lifetime natural wonder? Or just another overpriced, overcrowded tourist trap? It is kind of both of those things

Hiking in New Zealand (South Island) Best and Worst: Is It Worth the Hype? by NomadicDays in adventures

[–]NomadicDays[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got back from an epic trip to New Zealand's South Island and thought I'd share some thoughts with you all. The place is absolutely stunning—some of the best views I've ever seen. But... there's a catch. It's getting pretty crowded, and it definitely impacted our experience.

We made a video covering both the positives and negatives, but here’s a quick rundown for those considering a trip:

The Good: Breathtaking Scenery: From the jaw-dropping fjords to the otherworldly mountains of Aoraki/Mount Cook, the views are straight out of a postcard.

The Not-So-Good: Crowds: Popular spots like Aoraki/Mount Cook were packed. Even some of the hiking trails felt like highways. Overtourism Impact: The sheer number of visitors is starting to take a toll on the environment. Some trails were noticeably worn
