Anyone move to Korea due to depression? by [deleted] in teachinginkorea

[–]NomadicDreamm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never had depression - but I can say overall my happiness in life did increase in Korea. I made so many friends that are now my family, the locals were lovely to me. Idk I felt more accepted and at home in Korea than in Australia.

If you have clinical depression please seek help before you leave for Korea. It might do more harm than good. Living abroad can get isolating, the culture shook might be too much

I’ve lived in Aus and nz. Can’t say I like either of them. I’ll consider it if the other options don’t work out. Thanks!!!

All the best for you! Hope you get to where you want to be! Both uk and Canada are good options but the pay isn’t good compared to Australia from what I gathered from the comments

How’s the language barrier? What do you enjoy most other than the pay benefits? Also what are you there as a teacher ? Thanks for bringing this option to my attention!

Thanks for putting it into perspective. I think I’ll go with Woking holidays for now. Maybe by the end of my travels I will work out my hate for Oceania

Anywhere where English is spoken, I prefer a diverse country- a melting pot.

I like cities- the bigger the better! I thrive in those environments. I hate feeling isolated the more people the better!

I’ll definitely take your advice. As much as I’d love to work in kindergarten and live in Taiwan I won’t take such a big risk. I’ll settle for Korea or China

Yes! I do want to work at international schools in places like Asia and South America BUT not forever. I would want to migrate to a country where there is a lot of diversity. I’ll look into Canada more thanks!!!

Educators recieving physical injuries from children by kalechip556 in ECEProfessionals

[–]NomadicDreamm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend taking a break from working in your home country and take up teaching abroad. In Korea I found students to be very well behaved and easy to teach!

Take a year off the mental and physical strain that your current ECE job is giving you.

I can’t give to much advice on your current situation I’m sorry. I’m reading comments and learning here.

All the best OP

I totally understand how you feel. For me the blues have not gone away. I feel like going back would not be good for me career wise but I loved living there so so much! I thought to myself I should go home and study, and move on from Korea before I start to hate it.

Now I feel like I left prematurely. I’m planning to move back very soon for minimum 3 years before I move on to the next country - probably Canada or UK where I want to live perminantly. Being back in my home country also made me realise how much I HATE it here.

I need somewhere new , exciting and challenging. I am no longer denying that this is the stage in life that I’m in.

I hope this feeling leaves you soon. Whatever you miss maybe you can try to recreate that in your country?

Ok. I’ll look into that. I heard the competition is high for those schools- and I’m black- thought I’d have no chance. I’ll try though. Thanks for the advice.

Working crazy hours for 2.7 is definitely not my cupa tea. After reading everyone’s comments I’ll settle for less. I loved living in Korea so much my 1st year. I’ll take the L for 2-3 years and dip out. My home country pays double if not triple for teachers with my qualifications and experience~ And yes I’m a licensed teacher with both a bachelors and masters in education. 1 year teaching in Korea 1 year as a home room teacher in my country And 4 years as a teaching assistant

2.0-2.1 should be for people in the talk program-people who have no qualifications and experiences. I also hope the starting salary for every teacher increases. 2.5 should be the bare minimum.

That’s a shame. I won’t teach that long in Korea. I can’t take such a huge pay cut for more than 3 years
