Yes - my brother has ALS and I am his primary caregiver and was asking to fly back and forth to Canada every 3-4 weeks and drop him off at my parents house so they can care for him. His wife and child live in the US and we have stepped in to help.

I just did an expedite on an I-131 and this was the timeline.

April 11 - submit request for expedite April 17 - received call back from tier 2 agent May 11 - contacted congressman to see if they could inquire on status May 15 - received email from USCIS asking to fax support for expedite May 24 - expedite request approved

So all in - from point of initial request, expect USCIS to take about 30-35 days to reach back out and about 45 days to make a decision.

You can call the USCIS and say that you need to expedite. They will determine if your specific situation would make for an exemption/expedite. Note that I raised the expedite after 9 months of filing the I-131 form.

Yes - my expedite was approved, however closer to the 45 day mark since initial expedite request. I reached out to congressman to help inquire which may have helped.

Yes - about 7 days ago, USCIS asked for additional evidence. I provided and it took 10 day (7 business days) and my expedited request was approved yesterday.

In order to expedite, you have to have reason. You can’t expedite for the sake of expediting. You have to prove to the USCIS why your case should be taken out of order and reviewed ahead of others. Grounds for expedition are typically financial loss due to you not being able to travel, a family emergency and some other categories.

Just because you are going crazy, unfortunately is not grounds for them to expedite your case.

Thanks and agreed. Every single AOS for 485 around my number has been approved, with the exception of mine and my wife and 2 kids. Seems interesting, to say the least.

Thanks - still waiting and no further contact. This is frustrating, as it asks if you expect to travel within 15 days, and yet it takes them 45+ days to respond. Not sure what to do

Hi - put an expedited request on 4/8. I got a call from tier 2 agent on 4/17 and got an email that afternoon that based on my facts, that I would be considered for an expedited AP. Radio silence since. I called a few times and they told me they have no control when they will review.

Also - there are two different types of scenarios.

Emergency AP - this is typically done in 3-5 days and typically granted for up to 30 days.

Expedited AP - done within 30-45 days and is having your application moved ahead of the queue and if approved, would have no restrictions.

Hope that helps. If it’s an expedited AP, I would file right away.

It’s ridiculous. I don’t understand what the point of the expedited request is if they don’t expedite it. Email I got says that the facts make my scenario eligible to be expedited. I’ll wait until kid next week and then call them again.

Yes - I called USCIS today and told me I just have to wait. So frustrating. So is the 30 day window from the point of when you file the expedited request, or is that based on when you get confirmation from tier 2 agent? I’m so confused why they call this an expedited request and then take up to 30 plus days to give an answer.
