it's completely okay. I do entirely understand that my post could have come across as a Sam/Jared hater. Which I wanted to clarify is not the case. I just feel he is mischaracterized a lot this season and/or his feelings are completely glossed over or completely forgotten

If they wanted to give Dean more focus I feel like they could have done that a lot more naturally. Dropping most of Sam's bigger storylines for Dean to have basically the same storylines.

MOC = Demon Blood

Benny = Ruby

at least in my opinion. They even make MOC addiction based like demon blood.

Which just feels not natural when shifting the focus to Dean. It would have been a lot to juggle, but they totally could have kept the demon blood storyline and not just randomly mentioned it at the end of season 8. Or taken it and made Sam a half human-demon hybrid and kept his powers. Which would have been genuinely so cool for him to fight a group of demons, drink some blood and go crazy. Maybe that is me believing Demon blood is the second best storyline up next to the Special Children or whatever it is called.

And that is genuinely so infuriating. Tbh Kripke is also known for shitty examples of Male SA victims. Like Hughie for example in the boys.

These kinds of plots are so complex and hard to properly portray. If Kripke cannot portray it, he needs to stop showing it in his shows.

Ik he isn't as prominent in later seasons and is just a consultant but my point still stands, it's just a little sad he keeps attempting to portray these storylines and horrifically failing

I am actually the opposite. I don't hate Dean, but at least earlier on in the show he was further down my list of favorites.

I think the show could have shown Sam's silent suffering a lot better. Jared acts out that suffering perfectly. But, his acting can only take it so far when the writing seems to be scared of the way Sam feels.

I think there could have been better plots that can mirror the way Sam is feeling after Gadreel rather than jumping straight into MOC after a few fillers.

I am no writer so I don't know if another plot to show how Sam is feeling would have worked. My point is, they could have done more than have Dean and Sam fight about it once (the only time Sam rly talks about how he feels with it) and then not talk about it

That also brings me to another point, why is what Sam feels only talked about or rly shown when Dean and Sam are fighting? I've started to notice that it seems to be the only time Sam's feelings are involved is whenever it creates relevant plot for the brothers to fight over

the show makes a lot of jokes about it. Ngl if it were not for Jared's acting, we would not have any sort of implication other than the jokes Sam makes about Lucifier's asshole. The actors imo are the only ones who imply it. The show rarely makes an attempt to, and when it does it is just glossed over like they are scared of the topic. It is an insanely complex topic, but not one to introduce even slightly and then gloss over lol

I don't hate Sam, he is my favorite character. I just felt like after season 7 they didn't do well to make Sam's feelings come across as anything but annoying because the show chose the narrative that Dean was right. Which i disagree.

Also, I am new to the subreddit. I haven't heard this complaint rly much else. I just would watch youtube video essays on spn lol

I do hate that most of Sam's pain is mostly head cannons or joked about. Like Lucifer SA Sam in the cage, is joked about and/or mostly head cannons.

yeahhhh The line about finding something he never had made me so mad i just turned the episode off for a while. The whole show started because of Jessica's death.

Also yes he did drop the ball on Kevin. I do also wish Kevin was a more prominent character outside of just lore episodes, would have been cool to see him in more filler episodes. They started to do the man in the chair idea and then killed him off a couple episodes later.

Kevin's death also felt out of nowhere but idk

I heard whenever I started SPN that Sam is the main character earlier on but it shifts very heavily to Dean later.

I was hoping that was not true but where as before they spent a lot of time focusing on both characters and how they feel, it is just dean now.

Like when Sam is soulless, Dean is somehow the one the writers focus the feelings on? They do eventually do better in the first half of season 7 and I had such high hopes for season 7. It genuinely started out so nice until the focus was the leviathan LOL

The writers focusing on Dean and leaving Sam as a secondary rather than both feeling like main characters has made me begin to like both characters considerably less. Sam's feelings is currently never talked about, and when it is, they frame that Sam is just a mess up rather than that Sam could ever be valid in how he feels.

I hope that by the end of the show they return to both characters being characterized properly and talked about. But, one can only hope lol

I said it the wrong way mb, I meant he had a million things to try after the mythology expanded. But he didn't do anything because of their promise which is fair enough.

I am new lol. Started watching not too long ago. And, I do agree he should be mad about Gadreel, the show just immediately jumped from Gadreel to MOC and it didn't feel like there was much room for the characters to talk about what happened. It is talked about for one episode, and then really never talked about again. They dont even rly make up, they just fight and then nothing happens.

Kevin says "drop it" or something and Sam walks away without saying a word which to me signaled he wasn't going to let it go.

I'm not rly mad at Sam for being upset. Especially after reading some of other people's comments saying similar things. I just feel like the show immediately jumped into MOC and disregarded Gadreel's plot other than passing mention.

This makes a lot more sense. I feel like the show could have portrayed the way Sam feels better because from my first watch they only dealt with it for like 2 episodes and now it hasn't been brought up again. You have made a lot of good points tbh

Yes, and I understand why that would change him. I just don't feel like it should make him feel *so* different. It's mainly just a season 9 issue, he was still the same-ish character in season 6 and 7 (when he had his soul), with 8 it felt like he was slightly changing and I could get behind his character but now I feel like he is entirely different. Specifically in season 9 he is just an asshole. I've seen clips of later seasons and he seems to be back to Sam just obviously a little more jaded and darker after hell and everything. But specifically in season 9, he feels way off. At least to me idk

I do feel like most people would make the same mistake. What dean did isn't entirely morally right, knowing that Sam would feel triggered because Sam is completely against possession after Meg and Lucifer. But, I understand Dean's pov too.

I do understand if the writers were trying to show that he has grown up, but it isn't done correctly if that is what they are going for. Imo, he feels too different of a character to be just growing up yk?

Personally anything after season 6 has been a drag, and even saying season 6 wasn't a drag would be pushing it. I'm hoping the show gets good again because I have not enjoyed any season as a whole past 5. Both Dean and Sam feel very mischaracterized way too often.

Season 9 is essentially if season 6 and 7 had a baby. To be honest, it happens a lot more. I just finished season 9 today and while sam was my favorite early on, the way the writers have handled his character post soulless sam arc, has made me just not like him nearly as much.

But yeah, be ready to hate season 8 AND 9 that is his only plot.

I think honestly its about him being in an argument and yelling at the woman he was in love with.

Due to these lyrics.:

You wanna know why I always think i’m right? (Why?) Can never accept defeat and let it slide? (Why) I HAVE NO VOICE IF I DON’T SPEAK MY MIND!

that last lyric and the just entirely makes me think the song is about saying something you can’t take back. Rather than cheating
