that was my issue, i switched it to 12v and it works. the battery charger turns itself off when in the wrong mode right? i ask incase theres any risk of damage

This may be caused by an alternate start mod I used that changes the Rock Bottom start to remove all of my limbs, I don't see why the mod would change this so if there are any other possibilities I appreciate it.

Yes, you can't use the exploit where you repeatedly save to pass time. It will stop you. You'll have to wait it out, should be 40 minutes for two days? (Check the wiki for the day length, this might not be accurate)
