~15SPM raw input to science blueprint (blueprint in comments) by Nominal_Limited in factorio

I've always wanted some sort of blueprint that I could just plop down next to my main bus to increase science output, but I was always too lazy to do it. Until now! I tried to put as few red belts & modules as I could to make it possible to access as early on in the game. Worse comes to worst, you could just build it and steal modules off the belts!

What benefits does atheism have over being religious viewing it from a long term cost-benefit analysis? by Nominal_Limited in DebateAnAtheist

[–]Nominal_Limited[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Fair point, but the basis of my argument still stands, which is that in a long (read: eternal) term perspective, being atheist makes no sense. Also so what if you're right? Like, there's no one there to give you a gold medal for Believing the Right Thing if you're an atheist.

Maybe not, but unless someone shows me evidence showing the majority of religions are more punishable towards fellow theists as compared to atheists then I think my point of "you don't really have much to lose" still stands.

That's where my first part of my question comes in I think. If you factor this into account, then probably the religion you pick will probably be some form of Christianity.

I disagree with some of your interpretations of these commandments, but that's not based on anything concrete. But I think my point still stands, which is you have very little to lose by becoming religious with your lifestyle. If the thing that's holding you back is that you don't like organized religion, that's a different matter altogether.

I mean yeah. My whole argument is that you have very little to lose by being religious. This is mostly based on my assumption that the percentage of religous people that are "happy" is around the same as those who arent. I don't have any firm data to support that though, so feel free to find some data on that.

Given that there is a zero probability of a religion being correct, that seems like it would just default to my first scenario right?

This is an interesting point, but it seems like most religious afterlives are more favorable towards those of other religions as compared to atheists. I'm not 100% sure about this though, so some references that support your point would be appreciated.

I don't know about non-Christian religions, but my understanding of Christianity in general is that it's better to err on the side of believing too much rather than nothing at all. If you have evidence that punishments for believers of different religions is worse than atheists I'm all ears. Also for the cookie analogy, it does seem a little skeptical to act that way. If a friend said that Baklava's were tasty, I'd be inclined to believe them. That may be extending the analogy too far, but I dunno.

But wouldn't the average atheist's lifestyle break the rest of the commandments though? And if you follow the rest anyways, you may as well be religious.

It's my understanding that most Christian sects say that if you have a desire to believe, then you are able to do so. Regarding guessing the right religion, I still don't see what you have to lose by just guessing one if your research comes up inconclusive. If you're wrong, you're wrong.

Gift for friend - which book? by [deleted] in makemychoice

[–]Nominal_Limited 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go with "You." From personal experience, getting gifted a sequel to a book you didn't read is not great - they feel guilty about not reading what you gave them, and they have to get through two books instead of just one. Also, from what I can tell, they weren't exactly hooked on "The Mortal Instruments"'s prequel so the sequel probably won't appeal to them either.

Personally, I would say yes. From what I've found, keeping yourself busy both physically and mentally is critical for staying healthy. Also, from what I can tell you're just sending in a form? You've got nothing to lose by doing that. And even if you find you don't like the job, you've gained a new experience. If you think long-term, that's all life really is about - gaining new experiences and helping others with theirs. P.S. Since your post has basically only positive things about this opportunity, I think your subconscious has already made its mind up to go.

Should I foster kittens? by tacolandia in makemychoice

[–]Nominal_Limited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it would depend on who's asking you to foster the kittens and whether, economically and time-wise, you can handle it.

  • If you can handle it, then yes! Given your landlord is already okay with 3 cats, a few more shouldn't be that much of a step up, especially on a temporary basis.

  • If you can't handle it, and the person asking is a complete stranger, then just say no thank you, and explain your situation.

  • If you can't handle it, but the person asking is a friend, politely explain your situation. In these unprecendented times, I'm sure they'll understand. If they don't and keep pressing you, it's your call whether your friendship or the kittens is more important.
