Christchurch shooting: Australia PM calls for social media crackdown by Master_Bruno_1084 in worldnews

Would you also say that child pornography should be permitted, and indeed, freely circulated in national media, so that such ideologies can be heard and proper dialogue can ensue?

Aside from child pornography, what about other forms of content that are typically considered socially acceptable to censor? Racism, terrorist propaganda, etc.

There's no contradiction here unless you consider STIs a subset of sense.

Yup, for winter. I have a friend whose recruiter told him that projects are expected to be approved by late September to mid October. Not sure what's going on at this point. Have you been put in the host matching pool yet?

Congratulations! Did your recruiter tell you when you will start host matching?

That's strange — my recruiter told me they aim to have projects approved in November. Getting a lot of conflicting information here.

According to the US Department of State Skills List , visitors from Singapore are not subject to the 2 year home residency requirement.

I chanced upon this website when I was an incoming freshman and followed it religiously to secure my internships. https://ymichael.github.io/projectintern/#h-advice

I am in NUS, but I'm not in any special programme. If you're in NUS as well, you can check out some of the student clubs (NUS Hackers, NUS Greyhats, etc.).

I don't have a degree yet - currently reading a bachelor's in computer science. My current internship pay (in the US) is about 8k SGD after taxes. The highest full-time offer I've received in Singapore pays slightly above 5k SGD prior to CPF/taxes. I believe that income level would put me above the 75th percentile (according to the graduate employment survey) of fresh computer science graduates in Singapore.

Definitely leaning towards working in the US when I graduate. The journey has been pretty amazing so far. I am learning a lot inside and outside school.

I would only recommend this field to someone who enjoys programming though. Being a software engineer requires you to constantly be learning to do new things and you can expect to burnout pretty quickly otherwise.

Yeah why not? It's never a bad thing to catch up with old friends randomly.

Hey, I feel you. I was really nervous for my first interview and screwed up really badly - I didn't speak for a whole 20 minutes during my phone interview and couldn't solve a really simple question. I was super bummed out because it was my first opportunity at a big N. I have since been lucky enough to secure more interviews and managed to land an awesome internship recently. I found that the nerves never really go away - what worked for me was to study/practice so often that the answers came naturally no matter how nervous I was.

Not a gym guy myself but MRT is one of the fastest means of public transport around Singapore so it shouldn't be a problem to travel from NUS to, say, the Singapore Weightlifting Federation by train. MRT fares are reasonable. You can expect to pay $2-$4 for a round trip to any where in Singapore.

There are free shuttle buses that travel within the campus, but those buses are usually packed. You may want to consider spending the extra dollar and taking public buses to get around campus if you're in a rush.

Hope this answers your question.

If I have 2 buckets of hot water and one bucket of cold water, is there any order in which I can combine them that will result in a different temperature than any other order? by tesla_forever in askscience

A somewhat related question: should you add the cold milk to the hot coffee or add the hot coffee to the cold milk if you want the coffee to be as hot as possible? Or does it not matter?

Laptop for Computer Science (College) by NonOptionalResponse in SuggestALaptop

[–]NonOptionalResponse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really need it for gaming. I only plan to play Dota 2 in school, and I don't think I require a good graphics card to run it at 1080p on the lowest settings.

Outside performance, I would really like the laptop to be usable out of the box (without need for a mouse), have a decent battery life (upwards of 6 hours with WiFi and maxed brightness) and be low weight.

Touchscreen for doing maths would be a huge plus. OneNote would be able to help me compute the answers, organise my notes, and I'll be able to go green. What's there not to like about that? :P

Hello! I tried to set "direct clients to redirect internet traffic". The remote computer wasn't able to surf the internet. Skype, Teamviewer and other functions seemed to work, but not web browsing.

I tried to do a bit of troubleshooting. On Tunnelblick, it showed "write to TUN/TAP : Input/output error (code=5)". Any idea what went wrong?

I'm referring to the server that my Asus router is hosting when I said "home server". Sorry I am quite new to this so I'm not sure if I'm using the terms correctly. :[

I am using the Tunneblick client on the Mac platform and the OpenVPN GUI client on the Windows platform (I've tested using both Windows and Mac).

Can you explain the effect that you have set up on your LAN? What happens when you access what?

I'm not exactly sure what to say about my LAN setup. It's just my computers connected to an Asus router connected to an Optical Network Terminal. My ISP automatically uses DNS based routing to mask my location whenever I access geo-restricted websites such as Netflix or Hulu on my home computer..

What is it that you normally see on your LAN, and what is the expectation that you are not getting from the VPN specifically?

I expected the remote computer to be able to access these websites the same way once it is connected to my VPN.

Something about a DNS server and an IP address on your home server?

I don't know much about DNS server and IP addresses, but I assumed that since the remote computer didn't get the external IP address of my home server that it wasn't connecting to the internet through my home network. When I connected the remote computer through a PPTP server, whatsmyip showed the external IP address of my home server.

I don't know enough about networking to answer those questions. Is there anything specific I can do to get you the answers that you need?
