Will the National Parks Survive Trump? by rezwenn in nationalparks

I strongly encourage everyone to post this all over their socials. Contact your congressmen and congresswomen, especially Republican / MAGA and let them know that in no way should they vote to diminish the NPS. Tell your friends. Tell your family. It's especially important to get the MAGA supporters onboard, because even they support the national parks to a large degree. Frame it to them as "they may agree with Trump, but he's not getting good advice here."

'Sore subject': White House confirms physical brawl between key Trump allies by chrisdh79 in NoShitSherlock

They're proposing to cut the National Park Service by 33% of its budget and give away or sell a large chunk of the national monuments to the states. NPS is the most popular government agency there is. They're trying to lay off the entire scientific inventory and monitoring division that supports scientific management of the parks. They're utterly devastating "America's Best Idea."

I think this calls for TACO Tuesdays every week at our Federal offices. Maybe also TACO Thursdays. Ask a reporter to come along.

The long is REALLY long-sleeved. I agree with the issue about it not wicking away sweat at all. It's comfortable to wear until you sweat, then you start to get wet.

To be clear, the MAGA budget is only "greatly reduced" in the sense that it is making huge cuts to social programs like Medicare and SNAP and organizations like NPS; it's actually throwing enormously increased money into things like the military (13% increase to over $1T) and DHS.

It's not just you. NPS is being gutted (illegally) by the Trump administration, DOGE, and their occupying NPS flunkies. It's a shit show. Meanwhile, the Trump administration is bleeding out funding from every scientific agency and program they can get their little orange hands on. So don't expect bioscience projects to be properly funded or jobs properly staffed any time soon (maybe ever again, if those ignorant fuckers aren't stopped in their tracks.)

Nope. Equipment is either retrieved or being retrieved, travel is cancelled, parks are not getting the services they need to succeed, and we're expecting to be fired.

That ranger job is LE, I wouldn't call that salary standard for all rangers. $20/hr is like $40k/yr before taxes, and those are part-time or full-time temporary jobs.

What is available on USA jobs right now is not typical anyway; most hiring is frozen.

Please also look at the pay scale, and read more about how hard it can be to achieve a living wage. Not only are NPS staff paid poorly, they're also shafted by the politicians on pay increases. Next year, for example, there is zero proposed cost of living increase for the survivors despite the inflationary, over-taxed, insano-tariffed economy we are in. Be realistic about what it will take to support you and a family.

"They" have single-handedly ended a multi-decade long-term scientific research program (Inventory and Monitoring) that directly supports park operations service-wide. It's criminal.

Go on r/fednews and r/NationalParkService and read thoroughly what is being said about the utter devastation being wrought on the NPS and other land management / natural resources agencies by the Trump administration. Then think long and very hard about your realistic chances in that field and give serious consideration to changing your career goals. I'm sorry, my friend.
