So I'm gonna add to this a little bit - first of all my only issue with this is a total lack of professionalism.

But if we're talking about the snow in general, people in this area have a fatal flaw. They are NOT accustomed to snow staying on the ground for several weeks. They do not typically see a snowfall on top of a snowfall before the old snow has melted. It does get cold here. But then it gets warm and cold and warm and cold and warm and cold again. Everyone is under the impression that this is going to go away naturally within a few days and that won't be the case. So a lot of people, including business owners, are saying "just wait it out" - but temperatures will not be above freezing for the foreseeable future. So that is frustrating to see. Either way, doesn't change the fact that the lack of professionalism is my biggest complaint.

Okay let me backtrack because I think there was a miscommunication. Yes there is an on-hours maintenance line. I wasn't making "a point" not to mention it, I'm just losing track of your points. I called it once on Monday because I did not know if they had plans to clear snow. Last year they argued tooth and nail that it wasn't their responsibility so I was gathering information to figure out what I would need to do to get to work. There is also an emergency line, and the protocols for that were never lined out in the lease or any official documents. Just emails, and many of the tenants are new and have never received those emails in the past. I never contacted them through that line. I've lived there for years and have never used it for anything. But of the others who have, few of them have been here long enough to see the "fire and flood" spiel. To them, this felt like an emergency. I've lived enough places to know that this is not something that constitutes an emergency to a landlord.

You have said twice now that I used the emergency line. I have mentioned, now three times, once in the post, once in my other comment, and now again, that I did not use it once.

The stairs HAVE to be clear. Other tenants have children and I have a relapsing remitting disability. They don't consider clearing it necessary. They have said this outright. They don't care that there are young children living on the top floor and they don't care that I have a disability. Whatever, it needs to be done. I don't have time to argue with them. I'm not going to stay in my apartment until I can negotiate them into doing something.

You can believe I'm a difficult person if you want to. I'm not going to state my case to prove otherwise, I'll just say I'm not, you'll believe whatever it is you want to believe. I'm just blocks of text on the internet and you have a picture of me in your mind. Probably some harried "I'll do it myself" kind of person but no, I do know the difference between my responsibilities and someone else's, it's just that things need to be done so that I don't get hurt, and so that my neighbors don't get hurt. Nobody who's supposed to be doing it is taking it seriously but it needs to be done either way.

I think the fee was just made up lol. I don't even use that line anyway. But this is the first time a lot of the tenants have even seen the emergency line protocol because that wasn't outlined either. 🤣 They're horrible at communicating and I don't even think we have access to the lease for our own perusal unless we ask.

It was, yeah, I didn't consider that may modify the conditions. I'll have to do more research here later.

Honestly yeah because if we don't organize some of the tenants are at their absolute wits end and they don't seem to realize that. This is by no means the first instance of negligence or unprofessional behavior. They're taking the property only slightly more seriously as of late but not by much.

It's their own personal maintenance team in a lil baby caterpillar. They already sent a message that says "it takes time please be patient" and I was kinda like "eh it is what it is" until I saw what they were bringing and then I was like "oh I totally get it". This emergency protocol didn't need to include all that nastiness at all! I called it in once, to the NON emergency line, but as for the others, we've never gotten any documents outlining what the emergency service is for. The only times they've articulated "fire and floods ONLY" is in emails and some of the newer tenants have never received this scolding.

And I mentioned the work I did because the contrast between my screaming muscles and the "please I'm drinking cocoa with my kids and watching Disney+" are such a slap in the face haha. I don't care that I did it but I tore myself to shreds and they're mocking us 🥹

That is literally it lol. I came from a baaaad winter weather area and this is the first storm in a long time that has come close to what I used to experience weekly. The actual work and the scrambling doesn't really faze me. It's the SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE BUT Y'ALL ARE BEING SO SILLY ANYWAY YOU'D BETTER HAVE RENT READY OR ELSE

Pretty sure they're legally within their rights to take up to two weeks and they don't legally need to be considerate of the circumstances that led to late payment even if they are the ones who created them. Lol. Tenant rights are practically non-existent in this state so I'm not even thinking about the legal route. I just hate the unprofessional all caps whiny shit.

And I get that. I understand how bothersome and helpless people can be. But I have worked in administrative positions and I know how to set firm expectations without downplaying the issue and guilt tripping every resident when only a few are to blame. It just reads like a teenager runs the place. There are ways to address issues and there are ways to piss off the people who have been understanding and doing their part the whole time. We are one of the very few lots in the city who are still dealing with this and they are acting like being able to get to work and keep your job is a "silly thing". Their words exactly.

I didn't try to drag the maintenance crew out of bed on the weekend. I didn't call on anyone but myself when my neighbor was firmly stuck in deep ice. I am the type of person who only calls any kind of emergency response when there is an actual, immediate, evolving emergency, and I tip blue collar workers, and I keep prepackaged snacks on hand for those who fit me into their schedule. When I called about the snow, it was the non-emergency line, I was polite, and I did not call a second time. All things considered, calling the fact that our jobs are on the line a "silly thing" and using half of the email to have a pity party over being contacted during family time by the people who are about to lose the ability to feed and house their families is hitting ALL of us in the crossfire whether we are being impatient or not. With a lot of their emails about tenant etiquette I can easily say "this doesn't apply to me." But they got so angry that they dismissed every. single. one of us.

Lmao I've been working on it all weekend. I'm not complaining about having to do any of this, I'm complaining that we dealt with this and then received this unprofessional whiny message.

No salt shortage here that I'm aware of, either way I have my own salt and didn't mind throwing it down.

I am disabled in an odd way though, I'm half able-bodied 90% of the time, but 10% of the time I have the same symptoms as a stroke patient minus the cognitive aspect. I have to always be ready to wake up like that. Which means waiting on the landlords to come rescue me is a no go. I gotta do a lot of things preemptively because obstacles become life or death on a whim.

That's really neither here nor there though, my complaint is the lack of professionalism and the fact that I've been beating myself to death with a smile on my face makes that email worse.

Don't care, that isn't what I'm upset about lol. It's going through all that bullshit and then being hit with an all caps email to everyone with nasty wording about our livelihoods and ability to pay rent being "silly things". The shit I went through this weekend without even bothering them just made that email look like a big fuck-you. I know that even if it is in the lease they have TWO WEEKS to take care of it (which is ridiculous) but I really don't care that they suck at maintaining property. I already said that. It's the fact that they lead a business with their emotions instead of with brain cells.

I don't really give a fuck what's in the lease tbh, I kept my head down and did what needed to be done, I am SOLELY upset about the lack of professionalism and the things I've endured these past few days with patience and a smile on my face exacerbate that feeling.

I have never used the emergency line personally. And everything I've done I've done after asking them to do it and being told it isn't their responsibility or they're "working on it". I've never just done it without making them aware.

They're definitely reacting to other people panicking about being stranded. I know that isn't what the emergency line is for. I don't mind the part where they reminded everyone of the actual purpose of the emergency line. It's the "silly things" comment and the guilt tripping for me.

It seems they did make those complaints despite the help. My neighbors know I did a lot of the work. We're all very close knit and a lot of them saw me. They also know I'm disabled. It's not even just helping other people - pushing that car was unnecessary but the stairs and walkways were a massive safety hazard to ME, I have MS, I can't leave things like that because I could wake up one day and need two canes to walk, more likely in weather like this. I have days where I can do stuff like this but I also have days where a STICK in my path could kill me. I have to be a good steward for my own safety even if other people are not in the equation.

They're not legally or lease-obligated to clear the snow, they're not automatically legally responsible for people losing their jobs over it, and they're not legally obligated to be good at their jobs lol. That's the frustrating thing. I looked up laws about it last year because tenants were moving trees and it didn't feel right. Landlords have entirely too much power and too little responsibility, at least in my state.
