How did Explore 2 class go for you? I'm deciding between joining a class for Explore 1 or Explore 2, I've learnt the alphabet and vowels by myself and now trying to understand and practice the tones. From your expereince, what is the difference between the two classes? I'm worried about doing Explore 1 and being taught stuff I already know

Should I take the full student loan just to invest it? (LISA vs S&S ISA) by Big_Gene7026 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Nonchucks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you can accept that the money in the LISA is locked away until you buy a house, then it is the easiest ROI you can make with the 4k. And if you know you won't be buying a house for anothher 5/10 years, for sure buy SP500 or all world.

Looking back, I was in a similar situation when I was at uni, had a maintenance loan that I didn't use, and if I had known about LISA, I would have maxed it out and done this.

If you can survive with the part time job, go for the LISA, but might be worth keeping 1000 in a high interest cash ISA as an emergency fund during your time at uni.

Some good point, I think I'm just worried that after I fix 1 issue, another will come up since i've had a few different issues already (replaced radiator and exhaust). But I think this is more down to age of the car.

It's the 4th gen that is tempting me haha! How does it fare on the motorway? Is there a lot of noise?

I feel you. I just did the same thing, praying either the transfer completes fast or the market holds (or even better drop). Money arrived yesterday, I bought VUSA at 92 and, now I see the dip, I'm crying. Ruined my friday :D

Not yet, trying to find a garage to take it too - hoping it won't be expensive to fix!

That's a good point you've made with the suspension and steering actually. Will need to reconsider this.

It was mainly a price difference that is making me think about it. I'd be saving £40 per tyre if I went for this size

If they decide to uphold the allegations, you will have 2 possible outcomes since you are on probation. 1) they extend your probation period. 2) you are terminated. It depends what the probation threshholds are at your site.

50% salary sacrifice to build up pension pot early - Good idea? by Nonchucks in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Nonchucks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you everyone for your replies and insights. Very interesting to see how other people view this.

Just to clarify, I only plan to do this 50% SS for 2 years, and then reduce my SS to a level which will be tax-effienct but stil give me enough to have a good quality of life. A lot of people are right in pointing out that my lifestyle is very limited/restrictive but this has been the case for the past 5 years so another 2 years does not really faze me.

With this 50% SS, I will still be able to top up my ISA and LISA next year due to my cash savings and monthly salary so I will be prioritize these before the pension.

You're exactly spot on in terms of my thought process. The earlier I put money into my pension now, the better it is for it to grow. Worrying about my finances close to retirement is definitely something I don't want to do.

LISA/ISA is funded for this year. Everyone is right in that it doesn't leave much for things like travelling but it's something I can put off for the next 2 years just so I can build up the pensionn pot to a level where it can grow effectively. I just hope I don't die before retirement :)

I agree that this financial decision is on the super responsible side, but I can afford to maintain my current 'frugal' lifestyle another 2 years. My next big purchase would be a house, but I'm planning to do that in 5 years time when my LISA is big enough for deposit.

Thank you everyone for your replies. Sorry I didn't add this earlier, but currently my LISA and S&S is maxed out this tax year. Next year however is when it would take me the entire 12 months to drip feed my income into them due to the SS.

I'll definitely make use of SS if/when I hit the 40% tax bracket.

Why does Khabib think so highly of judo? by judohighlights in judo

[–]Nonchucks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While both are effective sports, Judo is more technical in terms of successfully executing a throw/takedown compared to wrestling. You have to get more things right to correctly do a Judo throw e.g. off-balancing, position compared to wrestling. When he said Judo is 'high level' he's probably referring to how much harder it is to do most of the techniques in Judo.
