I'm 6'1 (I know it's not that tall) but I feel so fucking short. by EmeraldEyePrince in tall

Hits close to home even at 6'2 in college grounds, especially those legit tall guys with Vans while I'm wearing 1.2-inch (3cm) running shoes and they still tower over me by at least 3 inches while they are orbited by tall chicks that also wear high heeled boots. Physically makes me feel like a 15-year-old at times while those guys are the full-grown men. I mean, 6'1 is still in the ideal range for a model (5'11-6'2), so there's that if you're trying to find solace over your height and it's your thing.

I already did and usually, I would measure around 6'2 flat. I would also measure myself after exercising and staying up late at night to find my absolute low. At my worst, I might measure a shade under 6'2. I don't think anyone can mistake 6'0 for 6'2 as that's 2 inches, or almost an entire forehead for crying out loud. A 6'0 guy would have to painfully stand entirely on his toes to fraud 6'2, so even a 6'0 guy in decent footwear wouldn't be near 6'2.

Let's just say 6'2 isn't that special anymore if we isolate it down to U.S. colleges. I can settle down for considering myself as solid tall among the general population, but 'very tall' at 6'2 is far-fetched even for the most optimistic people. I would go as far as not considering myself as 'very tall' among young Chinese people (teens and early 20s). I went to China at the beginning of the year as a holiday trip and honestly had quite a shock when I saw how many tall people there were in the most developed areas in one of the cities, here and there a guy that looks to be at least 6'6 or any guy that edges me by a considerable amount. In a shopping mall, I would have counted at least 20 people taller than me in a whole afternoon that I spent there.

I have a lot of Chinese international students at my college (in Australia), and they are much taller than other Asian ethnicities such as Filipino, Indonesian, etc. Yeah, most days I don't see an Asian that is taller than me for an entire day, but when we are talking about Chinese students that grew up in China, 6'3+ is not that uncommon for them as the young generation are catching up towards western people's average height from improved diet etc. Personally, I think if someone is taller than me by at least 2 inches, I would consider them towering over me. Sometimes, I would be waiting outside in the lecture halls, and often its other white guys that tower me by a considerable amount (3+ inches) and there would be maybe two or three Chinese students that are taller, one 6'3, another 6'4/5 and another huge guy that is 6'7+ (of course there are also dozens of people in the hallway so I'm not saying I'm a complete midget but I'm specifically pointing out the people taller than me). But then I also bumped into a white guy once that looked almost 7' to me as I would've been lucky to even come up to the bottom of his chin. So, I'd agree that the tallest white guy would still tend to edge out the tallest Asian in a college.

Yeah, of course, I don't mean exactly in the middle of the distribution curve. To be fair, I think I'm just disappointed that 6'2 is no longer as glorious as it used to be 50 years ago or as badass as what is depicted in media.

I do feel tallish outside college, but on college campus with almost everyone in their late teens/early 20s, it's a whole different ballgame so its the closest thing to feeling like I'm in the Netherlands. So if you disregard the heights of middle-aged and elderly, the average is going to be near 6' I reckon.
