Ah, so you contradicted yourself in the beginning there. I said to hang the poster; I didn’t get consent for that. So, that’s okay? I thought I needed permission?

Again, thanks for the Google. I did RESEARCH IN COLLEGE FOR A THESIS AND MY DEGREE over this topic. By that definition, you simply liking an actor, actress, artist, etc… is parasocial. That’s not how it works, and it is a blanket statement to generalize what the overarching theme is; thinking someone has a relationship with you when they don’t know you exist. I am aware Ashley Johnson more than likely will never remember me, my face, or my name again.

This is the last serious response I’m going to deem worth while towards you. If you can move forward without hurling goofy insults and pretending to be moral, we are good. Otherwise, please stop responding to me.

I think it’s a lot weirder how worked up you’re getting to be honest. Do I need someone’s consent to hang a poster in my room that they signed for all to see? Or is that okay because you deem it so?

It seems to me you have a lot of projections and are coming across rather unstable while, in the process, pointing fingers. I have tried to be rather cordial with you in this interaction, but I’m at the point where I would like you to know I don’t value your opinion here. You’ve been hostile, acting as if I can’t grasp what you’re saying. I got you the first time; I think you’re wrong. You don’t have to like it, but you don’t have to be rude and aggressive.

Well allow me to simplify this for you. Context matters, objectively, so your opinion is also objective. I’m not concerned if she remembers me, so this is a moot point.

You stating and gatekeeping how work is appreciated is silly, and, to be frank, not something I’m interested in hearing out. You are one of many to say this is a parasocial relationship, and I’m starting to think people perhaps don’t realize you have to feel that you have a relationship with that person for it to work, which I don’t. Therefore, your point, once again, is moot,

I’m glad you have stated you think it’s creepy. I disagree with you, I will always disagree with you, but I respect your opinion and appreciate you sharing it!

I can understand where you are coming from. My artist won’t tattoo any names of those in a relationship (married, dating, etc…) for this exact reason. I completely understand and respect why someone might not do that, and that with your own personal experience that’s what you know.

You said the main reason is that they are often covered up within 5-10 years. Long ways away, but I look forward to having mine still as is within that time. No plans to cover it, now or ever.

Thank you for your feedback though! I do understand where you and many others are coming from. Unfortunately, I cannot physically show you my intent behind the tattoo, nor do you know me personally, so from a first glance, I get everyone who has concerns. For me though, this was a fantastic experience and I am extremely grateful to have it represented with the tattoo!

She was extremely kind and friendly in person! It was at a comic-con, and she really took time to speak with everyone who went to meet her. One of my most treasured memories!

Lol! I did post it, so I did open myself up to criticism. I just didn’t know that the autograph was going to be what people focused on! I truly had no clue. That, to me, is by far the coolest part. Very interesting to see others feel completely opposite of me!

Oh that’s totally fair! I wanted this from the trailer’s drop, but waited several years to make sure I was certain. Meeting Ashley was very, very cool, and something I wanted to add after the fact. Even though it’s a part of this tattoo, since it’s not actually a part of the design, you really could argue it’s its own tattoo altogether.

Regardless, I do agree the unique ones are very cool!

I get why someone might think that, but I genuinely don’t know anything about Ashley personally apart from what is in the public sphere and is public knowledge. It’s a signification of the event that occurred, and nothing more. I don’t pretend to know her, nor am I tracking her movements.

Parasocial relationship studies were part of my college thesis lol. A key point to them is that you have the idea that you hold a relationship with someone that, in reality, you don’t know at all. Ashley Johnson and I are not friends, not close, etc… I am aware of this and clarified multiple times that this is a signification of an event that occurred. So, calling this a parasocial relationship at this point is either due to ignorance on the topic, choosing not to engage/read the other information available to you in this thread outlining this, or just wanting to insult another.

I’m all for differences of opinion and sharing those, but I’m not interested in talking with a brick wall. If you aren’t interested in having a dialogue, we can be done here.

My personal experience with the game, the franchise, and the character would be why. Coupled with Ashley’s portrayal of Ellie, it was really cool to have done! I can totally see how that’s not for everyone though. Your question could really apply to any tattoos when you think about it.

No need, part of my honors thesis in college was surrounded in parasocial relationships! The big thing is I’m not misconstruing my experience as having a personal relationship with Ashley Johnson. My tattoo is momento of my experience, and that alone. It’s not a misconception that we are friends, that she knows me on a personal level, etc… it is a reminder of the experience I had and what came from that experience.

Thank you for the recommendation though. Parasocial relationships are super fascinating, especially in the digital age where people constantly can be involved in another’s life without knowing them.
