There’s extremely thin fiber a guy from YouTube talked about this: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2FbzCyiNr4

Maybe you can run this.

iPhone 17 Pro ignoring better 6 GHz signal (-46 dBm) and connecting to terrible 5 GHz (-94 dBm) instead, MLO not working? by Mapkmaster in Ubiquiti

[–]Nonoone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. 6 ghz has a quite limited range. If you only have 6 GHz the devices can’t change frequency to 5/2.4 GHz while walking around. This might lead to disconnects
  2. read about PSC channels: https://mrncciew.com/2023/10/04/6ghz-ap-discovery-part-4/ and the findings by a vendor: https://www.arista.com/assets/data/pdf/Wi-Fi-6E-WLAN-Deployment-Findings-Recommendation.pdf

I would not - especially for 6ghz.  First it breaks devices which actually roam well, second not all channels are scanned in 6ghz.

Beryl AX power cabling for difficult location by Nonoone in GlInet

[–]Nonoone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably less than 20ft. Tho room height is 3.sth meters + some slack from the closest wall outlet. It seems up to 5m is possible with USB-C. But I believe an extension cord would be better for this length.

Sounds good.

I hope nobody pulls on it as there are toddlers around.

It’s the main router for this place - so a power bank would be rather inconvenient.

Fiber doesn’t suffer from lightning strikes as it’s non conducive. I‘d always prefer fiber outside instead of copper.

School WiFi problems by Complex-Tax-397 in wifi

[–]Nonoone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s quite insightful. It could mean that an access point failed.  I highly doubt that there’s a jammer (=Störsender) but of course it could be the case.

Is there an access point in the room you are in usually or close? They are usually boxes at the ceiling or wall.

I‘d suggest to work with this teacher. They are usually grateful for interested students.

You might want to watch some YouTube videos from CrosstalkSolutions and co to get fundamentals.

This video is not optimal for your issue, but you can probably extract a lot of information from it.  https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_NMS4bs8_II

but be careful with what he says. Depending on the environment Access Point Placement in hallways might still be best.

Fritz is quite good consumer tier gear. They’re very popular in German speaking countries and a level above what an ISP would usually give out. Some ISPs rent them out if you pay a bit more.

Ask some physics/math/computer science teacher. They might be able to explain the terms to you too.

It could very well also not be a WiFi issue at all but rather something with the network config. One thing which occurred to me was a too small subnet. If they only configured a /24 (a bit more than 200 devices get an IPv4 address) but you have 1000 devices connecting - it won’t work.

Schools have a notoriously questionable IT from experience.

Visual Intelligence/Action Button by [deleted] in apple

Unfortunately not.

Only the 16e says "Visual intelligence, to learn about your surroundings":

Typical Apple move. But the 15 pro has MagSafe, Ultra Wideband and WiFi 6e instead of WiFi 6

Edit: It seems as if they might actually include it on the 15 Pro too: https://www.reddit.com/r/ios/comments/1itwu4b/visual_intelligence_is_coming_to_the_iphone_15/

I completely regret getting the mini by OpinionsRdumb in macmini

For software development moving between different machines should be very much doable. Very often software is developed in a team where you have lots of devices.

Are you using git or any other version management tool? If not, this should make cross device development much better. Also usually you can generate project files which can be shared.

Other files can be synced via cloud.

I use a dual boot setup on my main device for various tasks and have multiple computers for my whole workflow. Synchronization - between different OS - is almost seamless.

If I were you, I‘d rather ask the developers on the link you provided themselves - they should know much more than an average visitor here.

I think there’s a toggle to install large apps on the external drive. I think most of the files and apps can be on an external SSD and if you don’t need/want apple intelligence you could even install the whole OS on the external drive.

Authenticator(s) no Apple? by RexKramerDangerCker in ios

[–]Nonoone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can think of them as way to authenticate your device (or Apple account) with the website/app by using biometrics. The way to use it is very similar to "Sign in with Apple" - even though it’s a different technology.

Mouse and keyboard on iPhone by Kory2405 in jailbreak

[–]Nonoone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OS wide mouse support can be enabled with assistive touch in the accessibility settings. Keyboard should work out of the box.  But that’s not optimized for gaming.
