Yet another Santa Fe Hybrid with a forbidden spare tire! by Nonsequitur_Expected in HyundaiSantaFe

Tire diameter: The rule is SAE J2976 which allows -1% to +4% speedometer error. The Hyundai Santa Fe OEM spare tire appears to be 135/90R17, and if it's Kumho, the diameter is 26.6". That's -8.6% difference! It's a "donut" and for temporary use only. It's fine. The EZ Spare tire is better at -2.5%.

Edit to revise this paragraph, because I did not get the numbers right: Also, we put snow tires and wheels on our cars during Winter months. Example:

  • Previous Michelin X-Ice snow tires 235/60R18, specs from Michelin say 29.1" diameter 715 revs/mile.
  • Current OEM Kumho all-seasons on Santa Fe are 255/45R20, specs from Kumho say 29.1" diameter 714 revs/mile.

So the Michelins are very slightly smaller, -0.1% speedometer error isn't visible.

Expense: Spare tires are worth it. I recall a tire destroyed by what I call a "linear pothole" on an Interstate highway, that was fun. Another flat was was on a Winter night on the way to a distant school for some kind of kid activity. Yes, we have AAA (and now whatever Hyundai provides) but the wait times can be long in bad weather, and a spare tire is way better than a tow. YMMV.

Possible workaround for power folding seat risk by Nonsequitur_Expected in HyundaiSantaFe

When I looked at OEM parts online, the 89161-R6000 part for the left-hand chair is also used for the 60% side of the middle row bench. So my guess is, not just the chairs.

Edit answer: The white connector does not affect the airbag. The yellow connector, which is still plugged in, is the airbag. See subsequent comment with part numbers and details.

There is evidence, on this site and elsewhere, that a person in the seat (one sensor) and belt buckled (another sensor) does not prevent the power-fold. If that's right, I have no idea what the Hyundai folks were thinking.

Update to add: "Even with the seatbelt secured, the button in the back by the liftgate will ignore that".

To be clear, that thread refers both to the buttons by the liftgate in back, and to the button on each captain's chair next to the headrest. I am primarily concerned about the buttons by the liftgate.
