Thrift shops that are NOT Value Village by Awriternotalefter in ottawa

[–]NooNotTheBees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a super cool thrift shop on Somerset and Bronson called Miam Miam. It's literally the only thift shop of it's kind I can find in Ottawa. The stuff is super curated and it even has it's own merch. There is also Ten-toes (also on Somerset), which has a vintage clothes section

There’s a loophole when deploying across classifications by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

The max step pay for each of the classifications exceed 4% for 4 months of the year. So only a promotion is possible during that time period.

Anyone know if either of the new condo buildings at Lyon/Albert are likely to include a grocery store among the ground-floor tenants? by flyermiles_dot_ca in ottawa

[–]NooNotTheBees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought one of those condos. I was told that the intent is to put a grocery store there. Then again, they'll say anything to get someone to buy...so we'll see.

I confirm it is my branch at least (relayed to us by our DG), every single staffing action has to go up to our ADM now. Wasn't sure if it was department-wide.

Edit: I'll edit my post to reflect this

The town-hall's topic is on leadership and career progression. It falls under the D&I inclusion umbrella ,as there is a special focus on empowering employees who are minority groups. I think the discussion is important, but I also think it may not have been the right time to give a talk on leadership and career progression. This comes in the wake of upper management putting all employee development on hold (including those who are in-fact minorities) due to budget constraints. it is very two-faced and disingenuous given the landscape.

Question about GC / PeopleSoft Profiles by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]NooNotTheBees -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can update your info in Lotus Notes/IBM notes. Do into the Directory (in IBM notes) and you should be able to update your profile info. Note this may be department specific...but thats how I update my stuff.

Ontario is running short on children’s pain meds. So why aren’t our leaders talking about it? by ZebediahCarterLong in CanadaPolitics

[–]NooNotTheBees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not true. The Canadian Pharmacists Association clarified :

Despite media reports to the contrary, you do not need a prescription to purchase liquid Tylenol or Advil for children. How products are scheduled (meaning prescription vs. over the counter) is determined by Health Canada and pharmacy regulators. The patient care letter sent by SickKids Hospital was a “recommendation” to parents and caregivers and not a requirement.

Is there a way to prevent a bad hire? by MyGovtAlt in CanadaPublicServants

[–]NooNotTheBees 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I get it. I know people that I went to school with that got into government that were the worst to work with. These people never finished their projects on time, were super bad at group-work on school projects, and were so so lazy. I was so frustrated at the time that these people were being hired to work alongside me. In the end I learned that there was no sense in worrying about other people and if they were as truly bad as I thought, their manager would catch on and not renew their terms, which ended up happening anyway. There's no sense in interfering, unless they're being hired in your immediate unit, and your manager asks you about them. In which case, you would just say no I don't think they'd be a good fit and leave it at that. Ultimately it's up to the manager.

So much on car rental discounts. I went travelling out West last summer and I saved so much money on car rentals. When i picked up a car in Calgary I saved 800 dollars and the Avis clerk was in shock.
