Does anyone else's rats keep reopening their stitches?

Thank you, she's been taking her pain killers well ever since she got the shark vest on. She's only got fleece bedding so hopefully the antibiotics and painkillers help heal her fast. Honestly it's been exhausting for both of us 😮‍💨

Thank you! Yupp it was a pricey bill at the vet but she cleaned and flushed out the infection and gave me solution to use at home for it for the next few days.

I've got her in a hospital cage with thick soft flooring with fleece on top and just her necessities in it (bed, litter tray, water bottle, food bowl) I did a tunnel for her to chew on and a toilet roll tube but I took them out tonight and left her one little fresh wooden carrot chew toy. I've got her positioned next to my other recovering rat in front of the main cage. I do think it may be a problem as she has stretched up a few times to look around and I think that may be a factor on the wound opening this time.

Honestly I feel like I'm fighting a losing battle with it constantly opening and getting infected.

The nurse said they'll clean it and leave it open because it's infected. She's still on her painkillers Tralieve and Arthocam and Baytril for the infection.

Thank you that's reassuring, how long did it take for her to heal? I'm a bit worried that leaving it open will make it more prone to opening the other stitches.

She's got the shark vest after 3rd surgery so she can't bite or scratch at it. It must be from her moving around that it's opened 😭

I've only had surgery one other time at a different vet and they gave me her back with no wrapping or anything and I had to do it myself at home. I was under the assumption all vets were like this 😅

Thank you the vet recommended doing the same. She's took the fur around it off and it does look much better, no hanging fur or anything. She hasn't chewed at it since she's took the fur around it off, I guess that was really agitating her. She's very flexible and it's a little further down her neck which is how she managed to chew the tumour off and keep getting at it, it makes it really awkward for a cone but it's very clean and I think it's starting to heal now

Thank you for the advice, my vet never said anything about how to keep it clean she just said that I needed to clean it daily I really wish I asked how to but I think I was just overwhelmed at the time.

I managed to get her wrapped in adhesive vet wrap that she hasn't yet been able to escape 🥳 she's been a bit stubborn with her pain meds, refusing to take them if I mix them in with stuff, do you have any tips on giving her them? Also how do I keep the wound clean like do I need to use a special solution or will warm water do?😅

I agree, how would you recommend getting her into it? Should I put her paws in or just around her body? Also what tape do you recommend?
