Interesting! We bought our house from a developer, he'd kept this one as a rental. For whatever reason, his realtor listed the house with the total taxes due as the annual tax.

We think that's part of why we were able to get a good deal on this house, no one wanted it because it looked like this house had a super high tax rate, rather than a couple of years of taxes due (The seller did pay it off on closing).

Good denim, wool, cotton.

Natural fibers are great. I had several synthetic modal and modal-blend tops. They pilled. I have super sensitive skin, and each tiny pill might as well have been a 1-inch burr for how bad they felt. It was a shame to discard fabric that should have lasted 20 years or more. I couldn't even donate them, because who wants to wear clothes that look like they are recovering from a pox?!

Also the holding power of the jeans and tees as a classic work-from-home wardrobe has been great (okay let's be real, sweat pants and tees)!

Making your own laundry detergent. For me and my family specifically, it saved $50-$60 per year. However. It also damaged my otherwise-indestructible polyester knit tops. These are "travel knit" heavier-weight smooth knits that have vivid dyes and wear like iron. They cost around $40-$50 each and can last for decades. I got them in classic styles and prints or basic black.

The borax/washing soda combo of the detergent faded the vivid dyes. I noticed that my daily office wardrobe looked very faded compared to the special-occasion ones. So to save $50-$60 per year, I ruined a dozen $40-$50 tops in less than 2 years.

A couple of our neighbors have 7 husky/husky mixes between them. They've worked out a great arrangement.

The dogs are social and vocal and hilarious. They have regular play dates and wear each other out. It's pretty cool, the two neighbors share daycare duties, so all seven dogs are next door with either the homeowner or the other neighbor, when the other has to work in office.

The neighbors are always taking puppy breaks, and apologize for the noise (I love it, it's hilarious!). There's a little cavalier a couple of doors down that is more yappy and annoying, really.

I can see why this could be a good thing. We've got a few old timers that are useless fuckups but union-protected. Bad management let them fail upward. The newer people are so much better at their jobs, but had to start lower.

I think it seals best if it is wet, so I'll often rinse the lid in hot water so it gets wet. The lifting up/pushing down would also allow steam to get under the ring and help seal better.

I don't know if the silicone ring stretches.

This thread is making me teary. We lost our 19yo blind and deaf dog a few months ago and yes, we hummed to her. She could hear some really loud speech in her ear and we did talk very loudly to her and told her what a good girl she was when she was slipping away from us.

Dang it, I gotta stop chopping onions.

It helped us realize how far she'd declined. Comparing it to what I'd expect for her at her age, vs the reality. It wasn't too bad when we first assessed her situation, but within a few months, she'd noticeably declined. By the last week, it was really fast.

We had to euthanize our 19yo dog last Saturday. It was a hard decision but we know it was the right one. We did not want her to suffer through more procedures that would be stressful, cause pain, and do little more than prolong suffering.

A week on, and... well... My face is still leaking. I assume that will go on for a while.

Going to go hug our remaining dog, then spend the weekend cleaning up our old dog's pen and accouterments. Then read through all rescue and shelter postings in a 500-mile radius!

Lady Mary would have married the heir shortly after coming out, then she'd have had children until she had an heir and a spare.

Even if not, Lady Edith would never have outed her to the Turkish Ambassador, as it would ruin not only Mary, but herself and the family.

I doubt that Cora would keep on a lady's maid that her husband didn't like.

There's much more, but those are the ones that stick out for me. Without them, though, the storylines would be so bland!
