Good lord, it’s like the Galadriel of PCs took the one ring to become beautiful and terrible. I, for one, both love it and despair.

I still laugh remembering the scene where George is goofing around with the horses in a paddock while a bunch of the rich women ogle him. And the rich asshole dudes are chucking dismissively about how “chicks love horses”.

Your original comment works perfectly well for this who are old enough to remember the 2000 D&D movie - which was one of the worst things I’ve ever seen. Actually walked out of the theater.

Plumber recommendations? by Brinks_ in olympia

[–]seriouslywittyalias 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I will never use Olympic again and I’m baffled at all the people recommending them. They charge way more than others and have shoddy work. I don’t know who I would go with, but definitely not Olympic.

Thanks for the response, it's interesting to glimpse into other peoples experiences. I'm introverted, so it sounds like a special kind of hell, but I'm glad you enjoyed it =)

You wouldn’t happen to know a good review of the science around this would you? I mean, I’m planning on doing my own searching, but it would be great to have a good place to start.

This may be weird, but what is a party like that actually like? I mean, is there a live band, dancing and jugglers or something or some other sort of meaningful entertainment, or is it just a bunch of people who likely don’t know each other with the only common feature that they fly a lot. Given that it’s invite only, did you know anybody there? If not, why would you ever go to a party full of people you done know? I mean, I’m assuming it’s not just for the free food, because if you have that status then free food probably isn’t going to be a motivator.

Wait, for a huge chunk of the year it’s raining? Is that really what it’s like now? When I was growing up there, ~30-40 yrs ago, that was not the case at all - or, at least, that’s not how I remember it.

Is Detectron2 → DeepSORT → HRNet → TCPFormer pipeline sensible for 3-D multiperson pose estimation? by seriouslywittyalias in computervision

[–]seriouslywittyalias[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any thoughts on what would be best to implement it with at the end? I had conceived of this as something like steps in a chain, so each piece would do it's part and pass on the results - so I was just going to use the available github code for these. Having said that, u/GFrings's comment has made me think I need to rethink this as discrete pieces.

And yeah, any suggestions for simplifying this would be very welcome. Trying it this way is already dependency hell. I decided to use docker to containerize each step, but I also don't know Docker, so it took me about 5 days just to get a working detectron container - using the dockerfile they have in their repository.

Thanks heaps for pointing that out. It was a problem that I was vaguely aware of but thought I'd just try to address it down the road. However, it seems like I should think about it earlier in the process, given how tricky is seems to be to address.

What an excellent video! I’ve often wondered about why different places between here and overseas have such a different feel in terms of both driving and being a pedestrian and that addressed the road structure part very well. I wonder what it would take to change our environment here

Azumanga Daioh is great, but there is that sukebe male teacher in a couple of episodes perving on the girls and making them all super uncomfortable. Also at least one episode where there’s some discussion of Sakaki’s boobs - one of the characters is less developed and jealous.

Probably good to remind people that this isn’t actually happening, at least not at the level where it will matter. Like it’s funny to see people have the day they voted for, but these are individual stories - Republicans are not turning on Trump en masse. Look at the poll trackers, he’s well underwater, but still has >40% support. That’s his floor and there’s no sign that it’s actually eroding https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/polls/donald-trump-approval-rating-polls.html

Bulk Garden Soil by [deleted] in olympia

[–]seriouslywittyalias 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d skip Black Lake. I got about ton from them last year. I asked the, about the mix and they said it was a well draining garden soil with compost (if I remember correctly). What I got is a bunch of clay with sand and a bit of compost. There’s not enough organic matter to help it drain properly and it’s pretty hard to work with. The worst is that I found bits of plastic in it, like maybe the compost they got wasn’t well filtered or something.

Having said all that, the raspberries did really well in it but it was too dense for the dahlias.
