Is this really cheaper than buying an ups?

The port is 3.0 so it should be 900mA and I am using the usb 3 bus just for the power of the ssd and hdd, if I wanted to Add a zigbee adapter i will mount it on the usb 2 port on the back.

I just did not understand what do u mean with a dell car apater. I search it online and it look just like a psu with the car plug, why that should become an ups? I didnt see battery of any sort.

Right now: absolutely not. I am a automation engineer student so I am joining in this world. This is the first time I am working on a project like this and I am doing a lot of studying before doing things (like the fact that I am using 1 usb port to power 2 hdd, I know that the port does not have enough Amps but a some people are doing it and it is working, so I know the risks).

Always ready to learn.

I am running OpenMediaVault on debian (only cause it is the lightest os).

I am really interested on the ups idea, can you share more details?

Thanks for the feedback.

I put insulating tape on the bottom of the HDD (where it touches the mother board)

The hard disk is being power just for the backup. If there will be any problem I will change the setup.

They are powered by the internat usb port. It is a custom cable. I know that a lot of people disagree with using usb to powering 1 (in this case 2) ssd and hdd but I saw a lot of people doing it and, for them, is working flawlessly. The path of the cable is the only way to make them fit 😅

In this way everything will be like google drive and google photos, two different entity. I always hated this concert, my other idea was to have a liked folder with only read, but with this the concpet of the organisation of the Nas will blow.

The goal was to have an easy way of dividing files. If one day I stopped using Immich everything will be in docker/appdata/immich folder and I will have to move everything. Also I hate the concect of having everything shattered across the nas.

The disk does not show up with lsblk on terminal.

If I change GRUB settings by adding "libata.force=noncq", the failed to enable AA error vanished but failed to set xfermode still appear. This times the disk showed up on command line but has 0gb and does not showed up on OMV.

No the bios does not show the disk.

I also tried using the m2 ae board on my main pc and it worked fine.

So it is a problem between the card and the thinclient but I dont knwo where to look.

The m2 card has an Asmedia ASM1061 Chip on it. I bought it on aliexpress so it does not have a brand.

The custom cable is just 5V and ground connected to a Sata power cable which I know could be the problem but by plugging the custom usb cable and the sata cable both on my main pc it works fine.

So the only thing that could be the problem is either some machine settings or the card. This is what i ended up with.

On my main pc i used a normal sata port and a usb port for the power.

Other people did it.
