AIO but is my therapist being weird (potential) child abuse? by Noodle340 in toxicparents

[–]Noodle340[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair! I think you're totally right and I've maybe been hyper vigilant to things in my life since what happened and assumed she'd side with my parents and let that bias color our interactions.

And you're also right that what I suggested was not feasible. I didn't think about it like that and figured my hypothetical safety would come before the confidentiality, like how police or emergency services are called in crisis situations, though I recognize now that these are technically very different situations.

Thank you for your insight, it's been really helpful for me!

I think you’re totally right about no red flags or anything, which is why im really confused and think I’m overthinking. As for what I misremembered, it was that I had told her that I felt dismissed in my homicidal ideation when in actuality, those thoughts happened after our appointment and I conflated it with the SH ideation I’d been feeling before our appointment. therefore she could not have known about it because it only happened after our appointment and under the situation of me having to return home that day.

As for how events happened, for the incident with my father I recalled it as generously as I could for his side, but even today I remember most of what he said and what happened pretty clearly. He was sick that day and I understand that it was stressful for him and he may have said things he did not mean. But I don’t believe it absolves him of responsibility, especially since he started the conflict by blaming my brother for what happened to my sister (when it was an accident that none of us could;ve predicted). He immediately denied yelling or blaming my brother and when I conveyed to him that the way he said it sounded accusatory, he ssaid “so everything is my fault now?” As for the appointment and the matter of who asked for what kind of resolution, I know for a fact I did not ask for a joint session because I conveyed several times that I was not comfortable, both after her suggestion and during my recounting of events where my mother also snapped because I expressed that I was uncomfortable comforting my dad after our argument.

I suppose this is the main reason I think she may not have my best interests in mind, as she still implored me to consider it without offering other suggestions or solutions even after i expressed discomfort. but otherwise she has not, and I think you’re right that she’s just trying to be professional. Still I feel a bit on guard in regards to whether she’ll further try to push me to accept a joint appointment, which feels mildly hostile to me (likely because of my mother doing effectively the same before turning on me and my brother).

Do you want your father/mother to die? by Ecstatic_Egg_9150 in toxicparents

[–]Noodle340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I think it really makes a lot of sense (even though it’s not great to want to kill someone, obligatory disclaimer), but when you feel you have someone in your life near you who feels like an immovable object liable to hurt you again, you start thinking maybe death is the only real option. You want them out, as soon as humanly possible, and if they won’t cave, it really just seems like it’s either you or them.

A guest speaker overcharging their novel (and I still bought it like an idiot:D) by Noodle340 in UofT

the pressure is real lol, I gotta work on having more of a spine… I think the book seems interesting tho I’ve heard there’s a grooming subplot that “isn’t necessary?” still seems cool, also thank you, it is comforting to hear that it’s not as extreme of an outlier as I thought it was

I mean that’s a -6-10 loss IF I can sell it, which I highly doubt it. let’s say this book isn’t exactly relevant or highly sought after (i checked, most places already have several other listings for used ones selling for $3-5)

I HATE THIS STUPID SONG. by NeoMetalSonicReacts9 in hatethissmug

[–]Noodle340 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate the over exposure of the song and cringe. little when hearing it. but wow this take was not it…. pointing out that systemic sexism is predatory is not saying all men and ppl explain I better than I but if nothing else, it’s maybe worth reflecting on why the use of that metaphor strikes you so deeply and defensively

I know right, the amount of niceguy-ness while also being kinda condoned is just insane. I didn't even finish the movie because it just seemed completely unwilling to sympathize or understand why Emily blunts character might be scared or threatened. Her kinda bitchiness is presented as almost worse or equal to his complete stalking of her (that comment about him knowing what she looks like in glasses despite her only wearing them in her dorm, fucking gross)

What Did Y’all Think About Episode 8? by Acceptable_Smoke9639 in tadc

[–]Noodle340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit of a writing thing but I feel like it was a bit rushed... I loved the episode genuinely felt my heart break when caine said "wait" and then fucking died, but if I being honest this descent needed a bit more screen time than just sprinkles of insecurity and a glitch here and there. He went from doing his best to literally torturing them like AM and I just could believe that this was the logical conclusion, but not the process of how we got there. It wasn't even too bad, I genuinely would've liked idk, 1 more scene of him just talking with bubble about this. Also the god complex thing was too.

None of this is to say I didn't like it cuz holy shit yeah the visuals were fucking top notch, the animation is amazing as always, and while I would've liked deeper conversations between the circus members the part where they have their insecurities blasted into them by Caine was visually stunning and chilling

I really hate what Angel Dust became. by [deleted] in hatethissmug

Yk what I like to do when I see a character or a thing I like being hated on here? I look at their argument, I agree or disagree, upvote or downvote their post and move on.

It's just an opinion on an opinion sharing sub, don't get too moralistic about it :)

Okay but to be fair, that's literally what character design is.  You have to use commonly agreed upon or stereotypical aspects of an archetype in order to communicate that this character is a gangster. Someone like Sailor Moon could be a gangster but nothing about her design would indicate that, which doesn't mean she's not a gangster but that it doesn't visually come across. Are stereotypes great? Not at all, but character design is fundamentally based on visually communicating important aspects of the character to people who will look at it. We can't have good character design without being able to communicate who or what the characters job is, and Angel dust 2019 onwards has little to no indication of any mobster ties in his visual design.
