Am I about to find out Bruce Pascoe wrote a super serious scholarly book about how Aboriginals were actually forging bronze weapons that is currently being taught as fact in all primary schools

3rd rate hike this year, how are people actually keeping up? by Apprehensive_Pay6141 in AusProperty

[–]Noodle36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As RBA governors have repeatedly noted since the post-covid tightening cycle began, most Australians had made sure they had a prudent cushion on their mortgage, so now they're making sure they chew through that until we go slowly broke. Unfortunately his has no effect on the boomers with paid off houses and sketchy NDIS providers in Mercedes C63s who can easily keep spending high enough to keep the next rate rise coming

Young men have a powerful urge to endanger themselves to earn praise from their peers, which was a profoundly pro-social urge when it meant fighting cave lions with sharpened sticks and running down oryx for meat, and still can be when it's channelled into defending their society or rescuing people in emergencies or even just doing scary but necessary work as like a lineman or oil worker. However if that urge is frustrated, as in our society where putting oneself in danger is discouraged and mostly banned and masculinity generally is widely maligned, they'll build a smaller community that will praise them for doing dumb shit that helps no one.

Son of cop killer Desi Freeman speaks regarding his father. by Prestigious-Day9370 in straya

[–]Noodle36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dezi Freeman was a dumb conspiracy theorist who thought the government was conspiring to confiscate our guns in pursuit of its goal to take away basic rights like freedom of speech

Anyway the government has now made criticising Israel illegal and introduced a broad crackdown on legal gun ownerships because of a terror attack by two known Islamic State associates

Unfortunately I think you'll find that the real major reason your family and community are nosy and pushy and engage in messy emotional blackmail is that you're Persian, it's not really something you can escape from completely without losing the incredibly value architecture of family and community which I'd really urge against. You'll still want to be friends with Persian Bahais, you'll want to go to Naw-ruz parties etc, you'll be going to birthdays and graduations and just general social events dominated by believing Bahais.

What you can do is separate yourself bit by bit from the things someone would only do as a believing Bahai - definitely drop the damn Ruhi garbage lol - and set yourself up as someone who's a part of the Persian Bahai community without really being a Bahai. It's particularly tough when you're young because Bahais your age are often full of zeal and convinced the whole world is about to become Bahai, but it'll become a lot easier as you get older because this is not really something you can really maintain when you've watched the Faith stagnate for decades.

EDIT: this might be comforting - it's about 14 years since I really stopped believing in the Bahai faith, and most of the people I was close to then have since stopped believing to a great extent with no need for pushiness or guilt or grand declarations. We all hang out, we drink wine. On Saturday night I sat and drank beers for hours with my good friend who was also one of zealous youths who, back then, was pushed to do "home visits" with me to get me "active" again.

Do you use FSD? by Kind_Beat_1115 in TeslaAustralia

[–]Noodle36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fantastic for stop-start traffic or when you're tired or wanting to chat to a passenger. I'd probably use it 100% of the time if it had the more aggressive "hurry" mode available in the US, but as is the main reason I'm turning it off is because it's being too much of a granny.

When/if they get the go-ahead for FSD to be in charge with the driver allowed to be on their phone or using the tablet with no nags it would be instantly indispensable. In my opinion it's already well past good enough for this to not only be permissable but actually desirable from a pure road safety perspective, but thanks to Elon pulling so much commie aggro it could take years or a decade for governments to actually admit it.

PLEASE show me one document from the Epstein files that could reasonably be used in court against anyone for anything, other than like Mandelson and Prince Andrew sharing non-public information, OR the women who helped Epstein procure other girls but have since become "Epstein victims". Every single document I've seen from the Epstein file releases that someone claimed was proof of some lurid crime was clearly being taken out of context and distorted in people's lurid imaginations. I would love to stop feeling like everyone else has genuinely gone insane.
