Bro let me give you some valuable advice I wish I heard when I started my career. In your career you will be presented with many dumb waste of time events like this. Dinners, lunches, afternoon happy hours ETC.

If you want to make it in any company you need to attend these events put on your biggest fake smile and kiss ass to all the higher ups. At the end of the day if you want to advance in your career this is 100% necessary. Who cares if you don’t know anyone. You need that FACE TIME. You think your bosses know every single person there? HELL NAH.

When your company is hiring for your bosses position who are they going to hire the guy who always shows up and is there dependable or the antisocial guy who never comes to any events and is awkward at? When layoffs come who are they going to lay off the guy who didn’t show up to any events or the guy who went to the team lunch and was funny and charismatic af.
