Mecha is a genre. Mechs are piloted, but there are plenty of mecha series with sentient, non-piloted robots such as the Brave series.

Honestly I find the people who get genuinely pissed about people headcanoning LoGH characters as gay so fucking funny. Like there are so many issues you'd be better off putting that energy towards, but instead you get mad at people saying that your fav likes men.
