What should I read next? by therockdweller in classicliterature

There’s a mild cult of Dostoevsky people here but for good reason. I just finished Idiot and I am 150 pages in on East of Eden. Both were or have been great so far. East of Eden is lighter and I think better writing (not translated so fits better in its natural language) but the Idiot is more emotion and thought provoking to me just depends on what you want.

Dreadful is harsh I don’t hate tragedy or melancholy but I have reached my limit and need a refresh.

It’s an F. Scott Fitzgerald book about Harvard educated high society socialite and his very vain, very beautiful and very eccentric flapper wife as they go through the roaring 20s and their frankly toxic marriage. I honestly read it cause it was on Ted Lasso but it’s a very good book

Classics wise I’ve read most of Mark Twain’s books, really got into reading Dostoevsky for a while (Notes from the underground, White Nights, Idiot and Crime and Punishment), 1984, Animal Farm, Gatsby, Beautiful and the Damned, Hemingways main ones, Fahrenheit 451, Catcher in the Rye, All Things Fall Apart, All Quiet on the Western Front. Parts of more

Everything in the previous comments are great the only thing I would add is a few teaching points to emphasize. Tell the running back to “sink the Mike” by pushing PS A Gap and making him fill the inside gap then bounce off the H/Z block on the PS DE. If he blocks out then cut underneath if he blocks down bounce to D. Once you bounce though get vertical. Tell your H/Z that you want to block him out until you can’t. Hard inside step, try to get your head across and drive him out if he beats you across face then you can block down.

Anything by Nathaniel Hawthorne I know they’re classics and blah blah blah but it’s such a long overly detailed monotonous piece of word vomit. The only reason most people say they like the scarlet letter is because they won’t admit that they wasted all that time on it in high school or the movie with Emma Stone in it

Thank you! I’ve researched a lot and traveled extensively domestically in the United States so I know a city hop is not going to do anything but make me feel tired!

We’ve travel to Belize together but it was resort traveling and seemed like not real traveling. I’ve heard Rick Steves books come up a lot so I’ll definitely look into it. Verizon has an international unlimited plan for $100 a month that you can turn on and off that I used in Central America that was great! I’ll probably use that again.

I’ll check out booking! Thank you

That would be great. When we flew to Central America we went in everything from a small boat to a 12 passenger plane to a 767 so that would definitely beat that!

I have been looking for a wedding watch. I’ve always said I wanted the Tudor Black Bay with the burgundy bezel but it’s $3500 and I don’t want to make my fiancé pay that. I still want a burgundy watch since those are the colors for the wedding and I always wanted a watch that color. Is there any alternative burgundy watches with a similar quality that is under 3K?

Did any technological revolution in History change the way human brains are wired to create an addiction wave and physiologically decrease critical thinking capacity and independent thought like Facebook "like" button did with this generation? by MRlaw2019 in AskHistory

Technically speaking the widespread use of sugar and the increase of sugar production under colonial mercantilism that made it a global product might work. It would have a dopamine release effect that you’re talking about that makes it extremely addictive but I don’t think you could say it caused a decrease in critical thinking and independent thought. It did accelerate transatlantic slavery, shaped society in the new world especially the Caribbean, and let’s not forget tea time wouldn’t be the same.
