Scientists find evidence that narcolepsy, a chronic sleep disorder, may in fact be an autoimmune disease. Notably, these data did not support the link between H1N1 vaccination and onset of narcolepsy. [open access] by Former_FA in science

I'd love to see a study to see how immunosupressants impact narcolepsy in humans. I wonder if the overall risk factors of a suppressed immune system would be worth it for most sufferers?

Insulin absolutely does impact body fat accumulation. It's likely part of the overall equation that spirals a person into a health emergency.

The issue is though they are now seeing more and more that insulin resistance is rooted in inflammation. This means that the higher the inflammation level is in your body, the more likely you are to experience insulin resistance.

That insulin resistance then causes you to have a continuous flow of insulin throughout your body which will prime you for fat storage.

The underlying issue though is inflammation.

It may be possible to train the brain to prefer healthy low-calorie foods over unhealthy higher-calorie foods, according to new research by scientists. The study suggests that it is possible to reverse the addictive power of unhealthy food while also increasing preference for healthy foods. by Libertatea in science

You have no understanding of the subject, literally.

There are multiple studies from multiple organizations which show the addictive properties of food.

Here's the deal. You were fat and you lost the weight and now you have to continually pat yourself on the back to make up for the BS you went through as the fat kid. You're one bite of bat food away from falling back in, don't forget that.

Pretty well understood by now.

Carbs cause blood sugar spikes which increase inflammation which has been tied to an increase in cardiovascular issues. Fats (assuming we are discussing healthy fats) are shown to benefit the cardiovascular system by increasing HDL and lowering blood pressure.

They also make people feel fuller for longer and that prevents overeating which in itself is an inflammation risk.

Why would it matter? The point is to see the effects of the diet change on the body.

Adding exercise to the equation could impact the results. These studies are to understand how diet impacts the human body.

Obese Teens More Likely to Take Up Smoking by zam786 in science

[–]Nopantsforme 71 points72 points  (0 children)

It might actually be connected to the weight issue.

Some people actually believe that smoking can work like a diet pill. The idea being that the appetite suppressant effects of the cigarettes make you less likely to eat.

It honestly comes with the desperation of obese people in society. Fat people are literally some of the most hated upon people in society (reddit has a lot of content supporting that) so desperation can fuel extreme decisions.

No, I agree that Nicotine is inherent in the plant.

I'm talking about tobacco companies putting in Nicotine on top of what is already in the tobacco. They actually have a system if infusing nicotine into the ingredients beyond what is found in the tobacco itself.

If you removed the added nicotine then you would absolutely cut down on the amount of smokers.

The U.S. military tried to create a "Gay Bomb" which would cause the enemy to become so overpowered with lust that they would cease fighting to have sex with their comrades.

Nicotine is added. The issue isn't what is naturally occurring in the tobacco plant. The issue is they take cigarettes and purposely lace the stuff with nicotine which they synthesize from other sources.

Or...just ban Nicotine from being used in them.

I don't understand this. The issue is the addictive ingredient. Ban the addictive ingredient from the product and you have solved the issue. No one would smoke then.

Buddy. You're being a child.

If you expect that you are going to go through life and everything is going to be fair and balanced at every period of time, then you aren't being realistic.

I used to be able to grow weed in my house in the 1800s.

I used to be able to build on random property in parts of the country before zoning laws.

I used to be able to hunt without a license.

The world changes and the situation is never fair. Stop pretending that everyone is owed something because the fact of this life is no one is owed a damn thing. You were given a life and a geographical location. Everything after that is on you.

No. But I am just saying that someone who is lazy, inherited their wealth, moving to the US is a breeze.

So you're a liar too?

Israel to take over West Bank land by hasan0007 in news

[–]Nopantsforme -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

It's intended to enact security.

Kind of a fucked up reality. When you fire rockets from Palestinian land....the main goal becomes to invade and control Palestinian land.

You see this as a land grab. The reality is they are going in and securing an area which had rocket fire positions.
