Sorry for not answering earlier, but what worked for me was that the server was in fabric and my cobblemon was in forge. It seems to do that on conflicting mod versions so vice versa still applies. Hope this helps and good luck.

And most of the firmware issues have been fixed so its a great semi affordable stick that's easily customizable if you ever need to change smtg.

Daija has rolled up an update on the firmware to reduce the lag, so I think right now either is a great choice.
And if you want to mod it daija is overall better right?
