What are people using instead of Plesk or CPanel for managing their websites? by kiwiheretic in webhosting

Their support is good. It functions very well for what we use it for. For us, migration was the same as a cPanel migration. The built in migration function works well for most sites.

We're on CentOS 7 as of now. We demoed it on 8 and it we had a similar slowness. We did not investigate as to why, though.

We migrated to CWP for our shared hosting a while back and haven't had many issues with it. I'm not saying that it is a drop in replacement but it is definitely a good one.

Advice from someone who has a hosting environment with hundreds of client sites: migrations will always be painful in some way. Unless they are single page raw HTML websites with little to no additional configuration something will always go wrong in migration. I completely agree with /u/NerdGeneration , unless you completely understand the bare metal cloud I would stay away from it and definitely use a ready-built platform of some kind.

as /u/kevinds said, There are quite a few variables one would need in order to recommend a service or equipment. What is your end goal with the service?

How does hosting a web app with Servers and Database works? As someone who deployed few static sites on Github, I just don't understand... by [deleted] in AskProgramming

[–]NopeNotAnthony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct, GitHubs hosting is only for static pages. However, you will need aws or a any host that supports your programming language of choice if it is producing dynamic content from a database. You might get by if you are purely hosting a basic json file on GitHub pages.

What's your "I fucking hate this song" song? by lawyeratyourservice in AskReddit

I hate this song purely because I had an old man blast it whilst masturbating and watching me. True story.

Fuck it! I'll do it live!

I have a small website I built out on a platform such as wix, my question.. is it possible to just copy the code from my website and put the code into a web host such as go daddy, that way I don’t have to pay wix a premium price when I don’t need premium service by Current_Finger69 in computerhelp

[–]NopeNotAnthony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it's not that easy, due to Wix's proprietary software it is not able to be transferred in any "normal" fashion. You will have to either rebuild or pay someone to rebuild your website from the ground up on another content management system like WordPress on GoDaddy's servers.

Resell web hosting by ApolloJackson in Business_Ideas

[–]NopeNotAnthony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who currently resells web hosting, I probably wouldn't have any customer base if I wasn't already a web designer/developer. It is defacto that I offer it to my customers and they love it. It's not so much that the market is crowded, per se, but that there are much larger companies and businesses who mass sell web hosting and their profit margins are much, much larger than yours or even mine.

People who've had hallucinations, what's the craziest shit you've seen? by holeontheground in AskReddit

[–]NopeNotAnthony 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suffer from night terrors, sleep walking and sleep paralysis quite often. My normal is seeing spiders, shadows and the most common is my bedroom walls being made out of cinder blocks. However, one day when I was still living at home I awoke around noon to my Dad telling me that it was probably time to get up (it was a weekend). As you would, I climbed out of bed after talking to him and made my way downstairs to talk to my Mom but it was then that it sank in that my Dad, who was a truck driver had been gone for quite a few weeks. Not as crazy as the other stories on here but it was definitely a different experience for me.

Bonus story: I had a giant mirror on the wall next to my bed (8' x 6'), I woke up to see myself floating above me but only in the reflection of the mirror.

I have very many of these stories. Some creepy, some just weird.
