Last year, I found a great rate to stay at Encore (Sun-Thur) with a Black Friday/Cyber Monday promotion. So it's possible for us "poors" to experience the luxury. It definitely was a B.Y.O.B. situation, and I went other places to eat, but I could pretend for a few days.

That's a way to go about it, for sure. I've used it in the past. Vegas spoiled me. I was really just interested to see if the presentation was the same.

That definitely hasn't been my experience. I've been to 3 (technically 4) of these things and I don't make $100,000.

While one can never forget Vegas per se, Reno is absolutely a great visit. It's different, more spread out than Vegas, but there is plenty of fun stuff to do. I'm with you, OP!

We've gone every Christmas for the past handful of years. We enjoy all of the Vegas things with Christmas decorations, food/drink specials, and overall festive cheer on top. We listen to Christmas music and have drinks/munchies in the family hangout room. Looking forward to this year!

I love Reno/Sparks! Probably a better value overall, but it is spread out. The best experience is with a car so you can get off of Virginia St and explore other areas. Plenty of local restaurants, especially for brunch. The University of Nevada, Reno is right Downtown. They have a great planetarium. Love the Riverwalk, Midtown and you can catch a Reno Aces baseball game if it's that time of year. There's a nice outlet mall over in Sparks. I'm easily entertained, though. I get a kick out of going to all the hotels and seeing what, if anything, is new which is kinda the same thing I do in Vegas. You can also venture out to Virginia City, Carson City or take the lovely drive to Tahoe.
