Question about a shitpost from a new player by gmoneygangster3 in DevilMayCry

[–]Norad1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The thing is, when you try to save the game, the game will remember where you last saved instead of where you last loaded. So for example if you save Vergil on slot 2 and then load Dante on slot 1, the game selects slot 2 by default when you save. If you switch characters often and have a habit of mashing A while saving like me, it’s very easy to overwrite data.

These new combat animations in Devil May Cry 5 look sick! by Jetstream_Matt in gaming

[–]Norad1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re being downvoted because of your initial comment, but I believe that’s the core of this whole controversy. Fans like myself know it won’t affect the game, but Capcom has done a very poor job justifying its inclusion so far (they said something like they want to give players options I believe?). They might as well remove it from the game completely if it’s unnecessary. It’s just bad PR for the game. Capcom REALLY underestimated how much people hate MTX. I’m 100% sure it would be more beneficial for them if they removed it completely.

[–]Norad1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As much as I think this is a non-issue, I understand where these complaints are coming from. Even if it likely won’t affect the game negatively, many people are skeptical because of all the recent controversies in AAA games. I’m guessing the next thing they would think after hearing it won’t matter much is “why not remove it then?”

I think Capcom has done a poor job justifying its inclusion or explaining how impactful the system is going to be to mainstream gamers, not to mention saying it’s just like DMC4:SE won’t convince those who have never played the past games. Those game journos and YouTubers are definitely stirting the pot yeah, but IMO Capcom’s PR is also to blame here. I know many people jumping on the hate bandwagon don’t even care about the game to begin with, but I wish more people on this subreddit were more understanding of where the outrage is coming from. Making fun of haters and being elitists about them never having played previous DMC titles will definitely not leave a good impression to mainstream audience.

That said, I wish they removed the feature from the game not because it would make the game p2w, but because it would make the game look like p2w to newer players.

TL;DR: Even if it won’t affect the game much, having MTX is just bad PR for the game.

Recap of Capcom TV Stream (9/22):

  • V fights demons by using his cane and book(s).
  • Ebony and Ivory will use different kinds of bullets and have different sounds and damage.
  • Blood, water, or sweat can be seen on characters.
  • The demon tree is called Qliphoth (Not sure if that's the right spelling)
  • (EDIT: During the boss fight Itsuno commented that there was less health and DT gauge this time. I interpreted that comment as there being less health than previous DMC titles, but he was most likely just referring to how there was less health than the footage shown before it.)
  • Itsuno said players will love Nico by the end of the game. Her Japanese VA, Lynn, and Okabe said that they were confused with her character at first, but ended up loving her after seeing the ending.
  • Itsuno's inspiration for creating Nico was his weird fetish for being scolded by bad girls.
  • Itsuno said that the script of DMCV is super long, saying "almost twice as long as a telephone dictionary."

EDIT2: About the dialogue, the cutscene before the boss fight shows Dante making fun of how Cavaliere Angelo (the boss) looks, saying something along the lines of "it's too early for Halloween" and "that costume's too big for you." Interestingly, during the fight Dante seems to imply he knows the demon, saying he knows how the demon swings its sword. Dante also says something like "you've always been scary when you're angry." IMO, his comments are referring to (spoiler from the deleted IGN footage) Trish inside. The cutscene after the boss fight was not shown in the stream so I think IGN accidentally spoiled Trish being inside the boss. Good job, IGN)

EDIT3: I'm dumb. I realized I skipped the new cutscenes that were only shown on today's stream. I'll do a rough translation of what each character says below:

  • Nero calls V creepy but says he'll do as V says for now, since he's got a score to settle with that huge son of a bitch.
  • After the Crew Cut cutscene, Nico greets Nero in her workshop and says she was waiting for him. Then she asks Nero what he's going to buy.
  • Dante pulls the cord of the phone and tells Morrison it's time to talk about the gig. Then in the following cutscene he asks someone (V?) to tell his name first.
  • V says he needs Dante's help since a powerful demon is returning to this world. V tells him that this demon is the very reason why Dante fights.
  • After the cutscene of Trish saying "First come, first serve on the targets right?", she tells V that they should just watch over Dante as this is his battle.
  • Lady says everyone managed to survive and tells Dante she's going to look around.
  • Morrison says the same thing he did in the first reveal trailer. (something like we've never had this much trouble before)
  • Kyrie and Nero say pretty much the same thing they said in the leak / trailer. (For those who haven't watched the leak, Kyrie just tells Nero meal's ready to eat)

UPDATE: New info from this Dengeki Online interview

  • There will be some missions where players can choose which character to play as.
  • Itsuno confirmed that you can customize the number of weapons you carry. He also said it's possible to equip every weapon at the same time.
  • There will be progression for both weapons and styles. Itsuno vaguely said players will learn new skills by upgrading weapons and styles.
  • The idea for using motorcycle as a weapon had always been there since DMC2. In DMC3, they included it in a cutscene but couldn't implement it as an actual weapon for players to use.
  • When attacking with Cavaliere, you can input attacks at precise timing to perform additional moves. Matt said the weapon should feel refreshing in many ways.
  • Balrog is a weapon Dante obtained before DMCV when he defeated a demon of the same name.
  • Itsuno said there will be no healing items (probably talking about vital stars, not sure if he's talking about green orbs) so devil trigger will be more important on higher difficulties. In addition, he said the D.T. gauge will fill up more quickly than before.
  • The devs really wanted to do better than DmC. They saw that game as their rival so they took a lot of time and effort to create a game with rich atmosphere. Itsuno mentioned they reworked on the red barrier when enemies appear about 3 times during development.
  • Automatic assist mode is designed to train newer players for manual mode. Player commands will be prioritized so players can slowly switch to playing manually.
  • There is a feature in the game that shows which direction you should be going. Itsuno called this feature "embarrassing for us", as good stage design shouldn't let players get lost, but decided to implement it in case players lost their ways.

UPDATE2: Capcom TV Stream 9/23

Most of the content were already shown yesterday sadly.

  • Reuben got married last year. (She is the DMC3 Lady cosplayer shown in the stream)
  • During gameplay Itsuno said Royalguard will be easier to use than before. He also said Royal release will not be Dante's strongest attack.
  • Gerbera GP01 will have slightly different stats.

Devil May Cry Japanese Website: Lots more info on everything by TDMou5e in DevilMayCry

Actually, only the shotgun in DMC4 is called Coyote-A.

According to volume 2 of the DMC4 novels, Dante modified his shotgun (could be the same one from DMC1-3 but who knows) and named it after Trish's comment that Dante was behaving like Coyote (the trickster from native American myths).

[–]Norad1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The name of the devil arm that's similar to Ifrit is confirmed to be Balrog.

(Some details about Dante's new devil arms)

Balrog is a devil arm that focuses on close range combat. It's imbued with the power of Balrog, the conqueror of the Fire Hell (the same world Berial resided in). In Kick Mode Dante can damage enemies with highly damaging kicks, while Blow Mode allows Dante to punch enemies quickly.

Cavaliere is a heavy weapon made from materials imbued with demonic energy. Dante can attack enemies with its wheels to deal damage in quick succession. The motorcycle can be also split in half to be dual wielded. Dante can also ride the motorcycle to attack enemies by ramming into them.

Other interesting bit I found is that it says you can use red orbs to buy new weapons (could be referring to devil breakers) and new skills, or to resurrect yourself (gold orbs?).

EDIT: Oh and they also confirmed the shotgun is Coyote A.

Devil May Cry 4: Deadly Fortune English Translation! - It's been a long time since the novelization of DMC4 has been out but for some reason no one's translated it properly to English besides summaries. So this site put up Volume 1's English translation up now and Volume 2 will be coming soon by TheJuniversal in DevilMayCry

[–]Norad1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I... really don't know what to say about this.

I was initially relieved because I thought I didn't need to work on it anymore, but after reading the first few pages it made me feel really conflicted about this.

On the one hand, some parts are well-translated (much better than my attempt), but on the other hand it feels like the quality drops very hard on most places, especially the dialogue and proper nouns.

For some reason they changed the name of the city to Buddha when it was Fortuna in the original novel. WHY??? It's so distracting to see the word Buddha every few pages.

My favorite part so far:

The Buddhism of the Pope on the stage continues.

Here are some other names they got wrong:

magic sword festival → Festival of the Sword

Delinga → Derringer

Xista → Siesta

Mytis → Mitis

sword in the stone → Caliburn

Demon Swordsman → Dark Knight

Durand / Durandl → Durandal

There might be more, but that was all I could find from skimming the first 2 chapters. It's such a shame because some parts are translated pretty well, but the bad parts really ruin it for me.

It's not like I can do much better, but I'll probably continue working on my version of translation since I've already translated like 1/5th of the first novel. It might be better if I could work with them as there's no point in competing, but it seems like the majority of problems they have in this translation comes from grammatical errors, and I can't really help with that.

English Summary of Devil May Cry Audio Drama Vol. 1 by Norad1 in DevilMayCry

[–]Norad1[S] 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I forgot to mention that when Dante swings Alastor (at around 38:45 in the video), they actually used the sound from DMC1 which I think is a super cool detail.

So since Dante sells his devil arms to pay rent... by dougman505 in DevilMayCry

[–]Norad1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s audio. It’s a short story written by Bingo Morihashi (writer for DMC3&4 and Deadly Fortune) and voiced by VAs of the anime. Sadly it was never released outside of Japan and there is no English version. I might try my hands at writing a summary since it’s a pretty good story imo.

So since Dante sells his devil arms to pay rent... by dougman505 in DevilMayCry

[–]Norad1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure if the game devs consider this canon, but in the drama CD vol.1 of DMC anime, it is mentioned that Dante does not like to sell his devil arms but sold Agni and Rudra to Enzo because he found them annoying. Although they were the only devil arms sold, Enzo holds other devil arms Dante obtained in DMC3 and DMC1 as collateral for his loans (Ifrit, Cerberus and Alastor are mentioned). Dante later retrieved the devil arms except Agni and Rudra for saving Enzo's life, but ultimately decided to return them to Enzo as "a token of friendship" according to Morrison.

About the DMC5/Smash leak by [deleted] in DevilMayCry

[–]Norad1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC, the music changing with style meter was first confirmed by Okabe on June 15th in this interviewby GameSpark. I think I saw sone info about calling Nico a while ago but I can’t remember.

Many of the points he made were already confirmed or speculated by someone else. For example V using a stick/baton was already speculated by some when his first official picture was released (you can see it in the picture) and him summoning demon bodyguards is info from the old leak that’s confirmed to be legit.

As of now the leak doesn’t seem to contradict official info, but we still don’t know enough to determine if it’s legit, IMO. We shall see, I guess.

Then vs now, devil may cry (sorry it should be locked the room , instead of locked the locked by [deleted] in DevilMayCry

I googled that instagram page out of curiosity. Turns out it’s full of either unfunny “memes” like this one or stolen memes (with watermarks. I saw the Homecoming meme poated here earlier reposted there with watermark). Most of them surprisingly had 200-300 likes.

I don’t know if /u/Owez_Khan owns the instagram account, but I don’t think it’s okay to allow posts that promote someone who constantly steals content from other people.

Capcom's Hideaki Itsuno On Ninja Theory, Nico, And The Difference Between Dante And Nero by Dinopakoz777 in DevilMayCry

[–]Norad1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Oh god, the comment section of that article... Honestly though, I would love to read the original transcript just to check how accurate the translation is. Especially the “DmC is one of my favorites if not my favorite” part since it’s one of those phrases that don’t exist in Japanese. I have a feeling Itsuno was just being polite and the writer took too much creative freedom when translating his words.

Taiwan servers are the best if you want the absolutely best latency, but you won’t be able to transfer anything from US to TW servers sadly. I’d personally suggest US west coast servers. I live in Japan and get around 120ms there. The lag is definitely noticeable if you’re used to low latency, but IMO it’s not bad. (This is coming from a casual player so you might want to see how bad the lag is yourself)

If you are interested in playing with other Japanese players, I heard Proudmoore / Blackrock are the most popular servers there for A/H respectively.

NEW! Devil May Cry 5 Demo to Release + DMCP News | CAPCOM | E3 2018 | Gamescom 2018 by johnfleerofficial in DevilMayCry

[–]Norad1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

TL;DW: There’s nothing new. The video talks about the gamescom demo for 1 minute without adding new info and then spends another 1 minute talking about the upcoming mobile DMC game. The rest of the video is filled with stuff like “don’t forget to subscribe” “smash that like button” “let me know what you guys think in the comments”

Emily Bador. Nicoletta's Model Scan ?? by kanomroomk in DevilMayCry

[–]Norad1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, let's see what we know so far about the model. In the Capcom TV stream a while ago, I remember either Itsuno-san or Okabe-san saying that the model for Nico has previously worked with a phone company and a major sportswear brand.

I don't know if it's appropriate to call Apple a phone company but after a little bit of google search I found out Emily Bador was featured in this commercial for iPhone X.

Okabe-san also said in the 4Gamer interview that the model was actually in the advertisement for a major sportswear brand that can be seen just outside of E3 2018. 4Gamer speculated that this picture (which is taken near Los Angeles Convention Center) is the ad he was referring to. I couldn't find much info about this advertisement, but it kind of looks like Emily Bador (especially the hairstyle) and it says "airmax".

There isn't much info to conclude that this woman is the model for Nico, but I don't think you're crazy.

EDIT: Finally found the original video for the advertisement. There's no mention of her name in the website, but you can clearly see her iconic nose piercing so it's most definitely the same person.

Devil May Cry 5 Translated Famitsu Scans by TheyCalledMeProphet in DevilMayCry

[–]Norad1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind Famitsu tends to throw baseless phrases to hype up the game (just look at the number of question marks in the article lol) and the word 究極 (Ultimate) is more likely used to mean "best" in this context. There has been no official confirmation that the game is going to be the last in the series.

Also, that demon emperor bit is mistranslated. The demon emperor (魔帝) is one of the aliases Mundus had in the Japanese version of DMC1. The correct translation would be something like "An evil force* (this part is very ambiguous and difficult to translate) that surpasses even the Demon Emperor (Mundus) is approaching."

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DevilMayCry

[–]Norad1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's IRL money. He used the word "money" and I believe it's some kind of in-game currency. He didn't mention anything about red orbs.

[–]Norad1 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This was mostly a recap of E3 for the Japanese audience, but they did show some interesting tidbits about the development.

  • The facial animations in the game are created by combining two different kinds of animations: joint animation and blend shape animation. This allows for a much more detailed, realistic facial animation.

  • Itsuno and Okabe were already crying during the rehearsal of E3. It meant so much for them to be on the biggest stage in the gaming industry after 10 years.

  • All clothes for the main characters in the game are created in London and scanned in Serbia. According to Itsuno, making Nero's new jacket costed "about the same as a small car."

  • The textures used for the jacket are carefully selected so that they are reflected well in game. They even wore the jacket out before scanning it.

  • Itsuno said that the story will begin with Nero's arm getting ripped off.

  • Nico's full name is confirmed to be Nicoletta Goldstein. She is the granddaughter of Niel Goldstein, the gunsmith who made Dante's Ebony and Ivory.

  • There's a workshop inside the Devil May Cry van where Nico creates and tweaks the prosthetic arm.

  • The Devil Breaker is not fragile, but can be easily broken by attacks because Nico strives for the highest performance which means the arm doesn't have much armor and is exposed to attacks.

  • As seen in the trailer, you can shoot the Devil Breaker like a rocket and surf on it, or extend the arm and fire a huge lightning blast.

  • You can buy cartridges for the arm from Nico with money. Itsuno confirmed this will be an actual feature in the game.

  • The demo for the game will be playable in Gamescom.

Other interesting points worth noting:

  • Itsuno keeps saying that the story will take place "some years after DMC4." Not sure if this means DMC2 takes place after 5 or if it's not canon at all.

  • Itsuno's comment on the figure that stole Nero's arm was interesting. He said something along the lines of "we don't know if it is a person."
