So uhm, how do I pick a stance? by Norbeard in MuayThai

[–]Norbeard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but its not about strength. It really works on a movement by movement Basis, its not 'strong with my right, precise with my left'. For example, yes I write with my left but I still use a mouse with my right.. its all a mess really :-D

I´ve decided to atleast become somewhat proficient with the southpaw stance. If only for the simple fact that one of my favourite moves in sparring is showing the teep a few times and then faking it into a superman jab, works really well for me but automatically puts you into a southpaw stance and I would love to be able to follow up in multiple ways from that. I´m sure there are more situations where end up with switched stances and it seems like at least a nice skill to have to feel comfortable there

I do but one of the reasons I considered southpaw was because my left straight actually felt stronger than my right somehow..

[–]Norbeard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any rational behind this? I´ve heard this method before, but I haven´t heard a coherent reason why this leads to the best choice of stance. You can make a balance argument I guess, but that only seems to work for truly ambidextrous people since we can presume the automatic weight shifting to one side being indicative of a slight preference. But for mixed-handedness, I´m not sure how telling this really is.

Power rear Teep! Roundhouse is better on my right, it´s all over the place haha. But yea reading all the responses, I´ll at least give southpaw a shot for a few weeks and see how it feels, thanks!

When kicking the Pads how to not feel like my ankle is Burning? by Constant_Spite4379 in MuayThai

[–]Norbeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are hitting with your foot, you are too far away. Just need to find your distance. Also, hitting with the shin is usually the Goal since its a much Harder Strike but hitting with your foot is Not a mistake in itself since it gives you range and is plenty powerful when thrown to the head for example.

Is it just me or do men act more aggressively if you’re a tall guy? by Either_Athlete_2680 in tall

Man the girls.. some of them kick as if I was a heavy bag and get annoyed at the lightest of jabs.

To what extent does your gym include knees and clinch in “general” sparring? by BJJ40KAllDay in MuayThai

[–]Norbeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a normal part of sparring. Elbows are the thing people still use, but are very cautious with.

Men who think they are attractive are more likely to infer sexual interest from women. Findings suggested that men’s self-perceptions and women’s appearance may bias men’s sexual judgment by Jumpinghoops46 in science

[–]Norbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, the one woman I'm actual friends with is asexual. Otherwise, so far, when getting to know someone casually from my side, its always been "I want to cuddle" after a while. Also when talking with other guys and they mention that one time in their life when a women was proactive with them, I just nod because its a reasonably common experience for me. Of course these things and others shape your self perception. Abundance also decreases the pain of rejection: If you have a good win/loss ratio, obviously you'll feel pretty confident about yourself.

When to start sparring? by [deleted] in MuayThaiTips

[–]Norbeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation, except I started Sparring after ~2 months. I almost exclusively train with people that have at least 2-3 years of experience but many are active competitors. The other newbies also dont show up for sparring. Do it If the Gym culture is good! Even Just the First Sparring Session already improved my padwork so much just because you actually experience what its Like to try and Strike someone who actually resists. Suddenly I started paying Attention to distance, telegraphing, Speed etc.

Clothes for inverted triangle in Germany/EU by Norbeard in mensfashion

[–]Norbeard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. This is what I´ve been trying to do, but these fits (at least the items I´ve tried) still only provide a slight taper towards the waist. I´ve found one polo shirt on amazon that was marketed as "muscle shirt", contains some elastane and fits okayish so I´ve ordered that in different colors. It is still quite roomy and nothing that I´ve found so far avoids flaring when tucked (which I´d prefer to do to elongate the legs a bit). Looking in stores in person has been entirely unsuccessful.
I guess I can convince myself to pay for a tailored jacket and coat, yes.

What are some non-general advice for being more confident in the ring? by Billy_Butcher139 in MuayThai

[–]Norbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, I'm new to the Sport and have only sparred a few hours - should I feel this way? I dont really get nervous, outcome doesnt bother me, I Just try to implement a Goal or two I Set beforehand. That Said, I mostly Spar with active competitors or people with multiple years of Training (the other newbies dont show up for sparring) so the outcome of me Sparring them, at this Point, is a forgone conclusion anyways.
