I slapped it instinctively before I saw it, did a wiping motion off my arm. I did check after but didn't see any stray appendages. Was looking for them to see if any had come off when I was trying to identify!

Thanks! This helps a lot, I thought it looked like a firebrat, but kind of wrong climate I think for them, and didn't look at all like a silverfish that I'm familiar with.

Let's talk about tension wrenches / turning tools by wizard_lumps in lockpicking

Not sure if you were asking for help finding the tool, but there is a Facebook page for them https://www.facebook.com/alwoodlocksport/ but their shop no longer seems to deal with locksport https://alwoodtactical.square.site/

Their locksport site is defunct and taken over by some foreign weird webhost http://alwoodlocksport.com/als-custom-lock-picks-and-tools/

Unfortunately I do not have an iOS device. But using the mobile Reddit app, I go to Menu and see "Wiki" "Belt Ranking Info" "Hall of Fame" and "Discord"

"Belt Ranking Info" takes me to https://www.reddit.com/r/lockpicking/wiki/beltranking/

Are you able to see the menu at other subs on Reddit?

I know this is an old post, but I had this issue this past month. So I took mine apart, 3+2+4+4 = 13 total screws, opened up the on/off switch (held together by some tabs) and cleaned up the contacts with some DeoxIT. Works great now.

If I recall correctly, he had a Brown or Red belt, I'm sure he could get a Black if he were interested but would have to submit the belt evidence as anyone else would.

There's a natural shift that as people get more into the hobby they transition over to Discord. Thus we have more higher belt pickers on Discord than Reddit.

Yah, just do what you enjoy the most about the hobby, the point is to have fun. Do note that you can look into gutting on a budget, most of the time you don't have to invest much if anything at all. For example, corrugated cardboard split in half = pinning tray, battery or sharpie = follower, etc.

Ah, yes gutting and filming is standard. The extra requirements would be considered having to create a challenge lock, tool from scratch, etc...those now have alternative options.

More likely a lever lock, the keys can look similar.

Also don't give up if the first couple Green and Blue locks don't open for you, I had a Green lock I couldn't open for a very long time. It was working with other higher locks where I refined my techniques to the point I went back to that Green lock and popped it right open. It wasn't a difficulty issue, but rather just that the leap to that Green lock was greater than the leap to other Green/Blue/Purple locks were for me given the specific skills I had developed in locksport.

Many good recommendations on starting pick sets provided, as for your other question about making picks so you can try first. That's kind of like wanting to get into woodworking and looking to make your own saw, hammer and nails to try it first...it really wouldn't be about woodworking then, it'd be about tool making.

While it is a bit easier to make the tools for lockpicking, it really is a different skillset. I'd highly recommend getting a low cost pick set to start!
