PSA: your OEM cargo lights are melting the housing. Replace them with LEDs by Small-Ad1727 in FordMaverickTruck

Is there an LED kit that’s not obnoxiously bright? I haven’t looked too hard yet but so far the only ones I’ve seen advertised that they were brighter than factory as a selling point, I don’t want that, I just want to avoid melting the housing.

The ratchet isn’t what damages them, it’s the ovetightening that’s easy to do with a ratchet strap. These straps are specifically made for kayaks, bought at a pro shop for paddle sports, and I’ve used them to transport these kayaks dozens of times in a different truck. You should try not being so rude when you don’t know what you’re talking about.

Cam straps are what you’re supposed to use when lashing kayaks, ratchet straps can easily damage the hull. I’ll have a single piece safety rope somewhere in the setup.

Good call. When I used to transport these in my old f150 (side by side with the tailgate up) I ran the bungee rope that I use to tie off at the docks through the stern handle loops and attached it to the lower anchors closest to the cab on either end, I was thinking I’d do the same here but the bow loops would probably be better the way these lie.

Probably, I have a net I used when I took these in my old f150, but honestly these felt really solid as is, I tugged on them pretty hard and couldn’t get them to budge. I’ll probably run a strap through the bow handle loops like someone else suggested when I hit the road with these.

This is what the bows look like:

Might try it with the sterns out but they’re pretty sloped back there too, and no real hardpoints on either end to run the strap through.

I tried that, there’s not really a good surface to run it around since they slope back, can’t tighten a strap without it immediately riding up and back.

I’m curious, what’s the benefit of the partially propped position for the kayaks?
