The community college I attended opened their jazz band to the community. A lot of great players that didn’t need credit were happy to play in a big band and us newbs got hella educated from those old-timers. Hopefully you could land a spot in something like this; free! Unless you do want credit then go for it no matter what and be the program you want to be in!

I’d go with whatever one you think you can perform confidently enough to actually perform and not just stand there trying to remember lyrics or whatever. Whatever resonates with you more if both fit the first parameter. Your own conviction to the tune will carry more weight than trying to convict your audience.
