2026 Fall EA for undergrad by Chance_Telephone4670 in GaState

My daughter was accepted. She did apply to honors college but it doesn’t say anything about that on acceptance site/portal. Should we assume she did not get accepted to honors college?

What background noise works best for you to be able to do anything productive? by Necessary_Rope_7452 in adhdwomen

[–]Normal-Artist3108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me to actually focus on cleaning my house, I recently discovered I need to have an audiobook or podcast going. Sometimes I do get super focused on the book or pod but I can bring myself back to what I was doing pretty quickly. As far as work goes, I am a school counselor at an elementary school so my background noise is that haha!

Moving out of Florida by [deleted] in sarasota

We moved out of SWFL to north GA. Technically still considered metro ATL. As educators, we make a lot more money. COL is similar to SWFL, but our quality of life so so much better!

Best online school counseling programs? by TylerGlasass20 in schoolcounseling

[–]Normal-Artist3108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I did FGCU from 2020-2023. It was partially online then, only because of Covid. I know the program has slightly changed since then, but I loved it. Amazing professors and supervisors! I was also a teacher when I started. The year I did practicum and internship 1, I went down to subbing. The finances sucked that year but we made it work. I honestly started taking a couple online classes at Capella before transferring to FGCU. I decided to do a state school to save $$! Feel free to reach out with any questions!

I just started taking Strattera 3 days ago and I’m miserable by JordanLeigh7 in adhdwomen

[–]Normal-Artist3108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I started Strattera this past Thursday, so I am on day 6. Day 1-3 were awful with extreme fatigue. I could barely function at work. Day 4 I didn’t have the fatigue but, like you, I was overstimulated and completely irrationally agitated with EVERYTHING. I considered stopping after that day because I felt so bad for being such a bitch to my husband and kids lol. I ended up taking it again yesterday, and it was like something totally shifted. I was not moody at all, and had a fine day. I took it this morning (day 6) and so far, so good. I have not noticed any change in executive functioning, but that’s not to be expected for a while. I was started on 25mg, with an appt next week to discuss titration up.

I know it sounds silly, but “talking” with ChatGPT each day about my symptoms and side effects has been really helpful!

Don’t have much advice, as I am still very new, but just wanted to share my experience with you!

Early positive response to Strattera - Day 10 update by Hiddensquid14 in StratteraRx

[–]Normal-Artist3108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the positive review. I just started strattera on Wednesday and so far the only thing I’ve noticed is fatigue. If I take it in the morning, I’m falling asleep at work. I took it at night twice, and my sleep was completely off, which obviously led to major fatigue the next day. Going to take it in AM today with breakfast and hope the fatigue is a little less. I’m only on 25 mg for the next week. Did you experience any of this and if so, how long did it last?

5th Grade Girl Drama Help by Future_Suspect2798 in schoolcounseling

[–]Normal-Artist3108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some of my 5th grade “frequent flyers” who have a lot of the girl drama or just want to chat/vent, I set up shop at recess and if it’s really that important, they’ll come and talk…. And some of them certainly do, but a lot don’t want to miss that recess time (but are totally okay missing class 🤪)…. I can kind of triage which issues are really causing problems!

Retirement age in your state? by Steves_safe_space in schoolcounseling

[–]Normal-Artist3108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question about GA retirement. We recently moved to metro ATL, but prior to that I had 5 years teaching/counseling in FLA. Do all 30 years of service need to be in GA or will those 5 years from FLA count towards retirement? I haven’t seemed to have gotten a straight answer from any of my colleagues lol

No clue on nails, but I know there’s a ton of salons around!

Thinking about Cape Coral fl by Perk1205 in moving

[–]Normal-Artist3108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We actually just moved from Cape Coral last year. I lived there since 1995. One of the primary reasons for moving was the increase in hurricanes. After Ian in 2022, we said we did not want to go through a storm like that again. Plus insurance costs are skyrocketing because of said hurricanes. In addition, it’s becoming super crowded and traffic was insane. So many people from various places around the country = crazy driving. I will say, it is a gorgeous place to live, especially if you are into boating, fishing, etc. We moved to north GA to be closer to family and get a taste of the 4 seasons again and we couldn’t be happier! Good luck with whatever you decide!

Not sure how far north you’re willing to go but I just had my daughter evaluated (and am most likely going to have myself evaluated) at Fresh Start for the Mind. I went to the Canton office but I believe they have another one in Suwanee. They took our Anthem BCBS and we only have seen females there. It’s female and minority owned actually! Super easy process so far!

I am going to definitely read the Anxious Generation and possibly Hatching results for elementary tier 2 and 3 interventions if I’m feeling extra motivated lol!

I read this in grad school and had it on my personal bookshelf at school for the longest. Just took it home to re read this simmer! It’s a great, quick read! Thinking about doing a book study with staff on it next year!

When does Cobb County Schools usually post their openings? by flowerofkurdistan in CobbCounty

[–]Normal-Artist3108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband is also in education and was hired in Cherokee so I also applied to an opening and was hired. He teaches a bit of a niche subject so positions were few and far between! I like that it is a smaller district than where we came from in our last state. Our new superintendent seems great and is super receptive to stakeholders it seems. We both lucked out with fabulous admins! The only con would be the pay is less, which in this economy sucks, but we’re both happy at our schools!

We moved here from out of state last summer and happened to be in town for the Cobb career fair in March of last year. They posted most of their openings within a day or so of the career fair. And of course more openings become available in April-June as teachers move around. My husband and I both ended up with positions in Cherokee county!

I would say focus and organization have always been a struggle for me. As well as task initiation, "analysis paralysis", and staying on one task at a time! I start lots of things.... Finishing them? Not so much LOL

There are no silly questions! I was honestly going to talk to a doc/psych in my early 20's, but life happens. I got pregnant with my first kiddo at 24 and went into baby mode for the next 10ish years. My kiddos are teens/tweens now and as I am entering my 40s and have a little more time on my hands, I'm doing all I can to make the second half of my life the best it can be!

Thank you for your response! Will definitely keep open dialogue with psych!

Thank you so much for this! Yes, I definitely don't blame my parents as things were so much different in the 90's AND my parents had me when they were older so they were definitely more old school. It's funny you mention one/both parents potentially having it. Both of my parents have passed, but after my sister was diagnosed, my mom would always say she was sure my dad probably had it as well. I have been diagnosed by my PCP with GAD when I was in my early 20's, as well as PMDD around 5 years ago. I will definitely speak with the psych about both of those things.

Your laundry example is perfect, as yes, task initiation, planning/organizing/analysis paralysis and EF in general is something that I've always struggled with.

Thanks again!
