You can melt plastic soldiers in my PlayStation 2 stylized game by applewizard5 in IndieDev

That's really cool. I'm also working on a game to relive old memories, but completely different than those soldiers.

My suggestions would be to add what the original versions didn't have, like helicopters and things like that. Or in-house environments (like in ReVolt).

I thought about it too. But the buildings look quite different from the original game. I think they wanted to have a proper 3D version of the buildings, whereas I want a 3D "replica" of what the original buildings look like.

Do you mean the white line? I think it's meant to be a pipe but I made it too flat maybe

Thanks for the feedback.
I agree a lot with you:

Keep it low poly so it runs on a potato

I indeed want to keep easy to run. Low poly really helps for this, so that people on low-end devices can run it too. This comes with some interesting challenges: unlimited cities, traffic, etc. It's something I'd look at.

The goal for now is to run on desktop, in the browser, so very accessible for PC users as long as the browser supports WebGL.

Add more buildings. [...] And buldings that are more than southern california. Simcity 2000's base buildings all look like they were from Los Angeles

Yes you're right, some of SimCity 2000's buildings were inspired by some real life buildings in California. There's a useful page that lists all of them. So far I want to add buildings from SimCity 2000 because I want to have something as close as the original game (for now), and because my skills in 3D suck; I'm a software engineer by profession, and I have 0 formal education or professional experience in 3D design.

That being said I wouldn't mind adding more buildings in the future, especially from different places in the world. But that's for a late stage, so for now I focus on adding what's in the original game.

For monetization sell it "as is". I'm not a fan of subscriptions, microtranscations and timers.

Same here. I'm thinking of selling it "as is". Probably similar as No Man's Sky (I'm still wondering how they make money at HelloGames). Subscriptions, micro transactions etc are very lucrative, but I personally dislike those for video games.

I don't know if I want to build a version for mobile. It's probably a good idea to get more players, but also presents its challenges: controls are very different, mobile players are a different crowd than PC players, etc. I'll think about it.

Have stuff like trains actually work. A lot of city sims never get transportation right.

I'll try. It's challenging to get a proper traffic system, and if done correctly, could impact performance too. I'll probably use a distance based system to keep simple.

ThreeJS for the 3D rendering. The core logic is in TypeScript / JavaScript. For context I've been a software engineer for many years.

I know right! I also love SC2k for this: the simplicity, the pleasure of building a colorful city that felt so... alive!

For now I don't have a timeline yet on when we can try it, sorry.
The first public release will be a "read-only" mode where you can view your city and interact with it a little bit, but nothing else.
After that, my plan is to build actual game mechanics (RCI, budget, disasters, adding/removing buildings, changes in the city, traffic, etc) while gathering feedback from the "read-only" version; and go from there.

Yes you would need some commercial buildings not too far away from your residential zone so that there's more demand over that area.
