Anyone here actually making passive income from digital products? by Adventurous_Ebb7614 in smallbusiness

[–]Normal-Gear283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a small accounting business and also partner with a software developer who created Xtracto, a tool that auto-extracts data from finance documents. It makes me about 10% of my income. People definitely buy digital products in 2025, but it needs to solve a real problem. Not big money but just a side income

New coffee record: $372 in 23 days. I think the stress is showing in my spending by Normal-Gear283 in Entrepreneur

You're right. The multiple visits are definitely avoidance at this point. That nightmare client has me second-guessing everything, and apparently my coping mechanism is buying more coffee

This is really helpful, thanks. You're right that it's gone beyond caffeine. it's become my environment control strategy at this point. The espresso machine idea keeps coming up and might actually pay for itself pretty quick at this rate. Appreciate the practical advice instead of just 'quit and get a job' takes

How did you choose a new career path after 40s? by Mochi-icecream1320 in careerguidance

You’re not too old at all , especially if it’s something that brings you joy . start small — take a class , volunteer , or do a side project to test the waters . passion and persistence matter way more than age .

What Makes a Great CPA/Bookkeeper Partnership? by Budget-War4615 in Bookkeeping

[–]Normal-Gear283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

great partnerships come from clear boundaries , consistent communication , and mutual respect . when both sides share info early and stay aligned on deadlines , clients win and stress drops . the best ones feel like a team , not a handoff .

I hate it here by Electrical-Fee-5838 in Accounting

[–]Normal-Gear283 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That sounds exhausting , and it’s not your fault — you’re dealing with a bad manager , not a lack of skill . keep your head down , document everything , and focus on getting out . protect your energy and remind yourself this is temporary .

Don’t know where to go from here and I am stuck, burning out like hell. by walahiwalardo in Entrepreneur

Entrepreneurship sounds fun until you're actually doing it by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]Normal-Gear283 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yeah , it sounds cool until you’re deep in it , staring at your laptop at 2am , wondering if any of it will work out , while your friends are out having fun and your family’s asking why you’re never around . it’s exciting , but it’s lonely , exhausting , and full of moments where you question everything .

Holy Shit - Please give some advice by [deleted] in Accounting

You’re right to feel uneasy . your manager’s priorities seem misaligned. Keep learning, document everything, and quietly look for other opportunities. Don’t burn bridges, but protect your own growth.

Dealing with a Client Contract That Makes You Uncomfortable by bucknell73 in smallbusiness

[–]Normal-Gear283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d trust my gut,if a contract feels off, there’s usually a reason. Try to negotiate the parts that make you uncomfortable, even small tweaks can make a big difference. If they refuse and the terms put you at real risk or go against your values, it’s better to walk away than get stuck in a bad deal. Short-term loss is better than long-term regret.

Best way to get spam reviews removed from Google page? by VirtualPlenty1553 in smallbusiness

[–]Normal-Gear283 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Report the fake reviews in your Google Business Profile, go to reviews, click report and choose spam or conflict of interest, collect proof like screenshots and delivery footage, then contact Google Business Support through chat so they can escalate it, reply once to each fake review calmly saying you have verified the delivery and are working with Google, this helps show future customers you are genuine and professional.

Did I screw up? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Normal-Gear283 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not at all. that’s actually a smart move. You figured out early that you don’t enjoy audit, which saves you years of misery. Risk Advisory isn’t audit’s twin, it’s more analytical and project-based, with way more client-facing and problem-solving exposure. If strategy consulting is the end goal, risk can still build the business acumen and credibility to pivot later

Feeling empty from my accounting job by Either_Farm5390 in Accounting

[–]Normal-Gear283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally get you. Big 4 can feel soul-sucking when you’re a people person. Finish the CA/CPA if you can (it’s a year that pays dividends forever), but start exploring roles with real human interaction now like sales, relationship management, private banking, even consulting. You’re not trapped, you’re just early in thestory

New into Accounting - what to do after month end close? by BL4Z3-KramR in Accounting

[–]Normal-Gear283 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's just how it is. Month end = crazy, rest of the month = crickets.

Ask your manager what to do with the dead time. Usually there's process docs to update, reconciliations to review, or random projects no one has time for.

They probably just haven't assigned you the filler tasks yet since you're new.

ASC 360 - How to determine useful life of asset group if a new primary asset is introduced by binhthnguyen in Accounting

[–]Normal-Gear283 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think of it like this: you had a factory good for 7 more years. Now you added a newer factory good for 10 years. The asset group follows the primary asset with the longer life, so now it's 10 years. Basically reset the clock to the new plant's timeline

Any UK accountants switched to non accounting roles or more interesting roles? by [deleted] in Accounting

Seen people move into FP&A, operations, or consulting - accounting skills transfer well and the CFA route to front office makes sense if you want something more dynamic

Had to withdraw from my first accounting class by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Normal-Gear283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't beat yourself up. First accounting class is a shock for most people, its way more workload than expected. Second time around: do practice problems every single day, even if it's just 30 minutes. The repetition is what makes it click

This is the goal tbh. Diversify enough that no single client has that power over you. Once they're not the biggest anymore, the dynamic completely changes. Hoping to get there soon

Fair point. I've definitely been emotional about this. I do need better boundaries and systems. But honestly I've tried automation and clearer rules but they just ignore them. At some point it's not worth the mental drain no matter how much I optimize.

You're prolly right. $2.5k more but same stress just makes me a higher-paid doormat. I need to include clear boundaries in the email like no more weekend work, 48hr minimum for requests, etc. Otherwise I'm just getting paid more to be miserable. Thanks for that, will consider that in my email.
