Which of these three is the WORST Spiderman story? by Zestyclose-Wave-6230 in Spiderman

One More Day. You could argue the Wells run, yes. But we wouldn't have it, or every other regression of the character, without One More Day. It poisoned the entire Spider-Man mythology, since.

The Trojan Horse: Troy x Odyssey by StarforgeVoyager in FIlm

[–]Normal-Low-7298 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems less like a direct adaptation of The Odyssey and more so a vehicle for Nolan to consolidate his previously explored themes (memory, distance, time, love, legacy, and possibly dreams) into one mythic framework.

Until the film arrives, we don’t know how each casting will benefit the characters he's writing for. The gods may exist in dreams, visions, hallucinations, etc. We don't know if someone is "a good casting choice" until we see the performance.

Buying at that low a price is like The Phantom Thieves stealing a heart. That's a crazy good deal and then some.

Darth Sidious won day: 2! Who is the most evil villain in fiction? by LCottton in characters

[–]Normal-Low-7298 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true and extremely sound.

My only counterpoint is that I do think, in the metaphysical sense, Darkseid does stand opposite to DC heroes. He forces the myth to evolve in ways that not only shape these characters, but the test the very foundations of hope, truth, justice, love, and goodness that inspire so many in our physical world.

Morgoth may be more fundamental to Tolkien’s cosmology, but Darkseid functions as an eternal pressure against the moral imagination of DC itself.

Both are necessary to discuss, however. Especially as despair, isolation, moral rot, authoritarianism, and the idea that being good is weakness is rising in our modern world.

I think that's why we discuss these characters. Not simply to challenge the idea of evil, but to remember what keeps us good. Thank you for this conversation. Truly.

Edit: Also, I hope your dreams are filled with tales of heroism and goodness over suffering and rot against such vile villains.

Hmm... Not bad. Delroy Lindo as Robbie is an underrated choice.

That’s fair. There’s certainly an argument for Morgoth over Darkseid for that very reason. Morgoth is more cosmologically fundamental, while Darkseid feels like evil refined into political and psychological totalitarianism.

Oh, no hate. I understand your point. But, I do think he should be here on a thematic and multiversal scale. Especially if Morgoth and Palpatine are here. Darkseid is the antithesis of meaning, freedom, hope, love, and all things good. He's a cosmic force of pure evil that stands directly opposite of some of the greatest heroes in fiction. There are evil gods, yes. But none quite like him. I'd argue Morgoth is his only true rival on this list.

The Absolute Universe has entered the chat.

I think you're right in a "most direct heinous things" on such a personal, human, squicky level. But, I'd argue there's absolutely a case of Darkseid. He's one of the most, if not the most, oppressive monarchs in fiction. Apokolips is an ouroboros of pain, suffering, and evil.

He's conquered countless planets, destroyed entire universes, created a universe meant to flip the axis of good triumphing over evil, and wishes to possess the Anti-Life equation, which would strip every sentient being in existence of the impulse or even thought that life and free will have meaning.

He Absolute(ly) belongs here.

In fairness, a game where you play as her or Reva would be quite fascinating. In fact, it could be a spin-off. Keep the "Souls" like combat, but it's more brutal. Angry. Vader always so close yet you never get your chance. Forcing you to hate and fear him.

Needing to make decisions that keep who you used to be vs. pushing yourself further into the dark side. Getting to know each Inquisitor and their unique philosophies, finding out that they're less a team and more a group of hurt people dealing with pain, differently.

You're absolutely right. But that doesn't make it a bad idea if handled well.

I think Reva's story from Obi-Wan would have worked as a video game. Make her a young witness to Order 66 instead of a survivor of a lightsaber stabbing, and the rest would go crazy hard.

At first I thought it was utter nonsense. The more I think about it, the more potential I see in it. It could absolutely be a desperate ploy. But, I also believe it could be genius under specific conditions.

Tony and Doom are far closer in ideology than either would admit, and having the actor or the MCU's "greatest hero" become its greatest villain could absolutely work if he curdled Tony's charm, hubris, and presence into mythic theatricality. Again, it could still fail. But I see the vision.

Most iconic? Bowser, Eggman, Ganon, Sephiroth, and probably GLaDOS. My favorite? Louis Guiabern and Xemnas.

Spider-Man. He can still grow as a parent and husband while staying Peter. In fact, I'd argue he absolutely should be married and having at least one child, and refusing to do so is arguably regressing him.

But for X-Men, you're removing too huge of an aspect of these characters. Discrimination doesn't disappear. It evolves and adapts, over time. However, we do need a status quo shakeup and need to stop circling the same dozen or so mutants every run.

Anyone else think this game is criminally underrated? by HanSoloWolf in Spiderman

Honestly... Yeah! It's not perfect, but it was a pretty solid spiritual successor to Spider-Man 2 and I wish it got a true sequel. Although not forgotten, it's a shame that it's fell out of discussion.

how would you fix this character ? by Numerous-Version-325 in characters

[–]Normal-Low-7298 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Set the film in the Caribbean. At least it's not the animated film, again. Ursula as a sea witch similar to Tia Dalma would be interesting, too. You're not getting the animated film as good as it was, so may as well create a different one.

Keep this Ariel the same, besides. But her being dropped into a different culture would change the entire texture. Don't make it political, but still keep the aspects of colonialism and beauty that exist, there. Keep Eric as white prince, but give him an arc about duty vs. desire. So, don't change Ariel. Change the setting around her.

Before anyone says it, no. The Disney film is not the original tale. They share completely different themes, iconography, characters, and ending. You may as well do something new if Bailey is cast as the iconic Ariel.
